Mid-10s in the 1/4 mile...no turbo, no fuel injection, no computer. Just brute force.

The October 1969 issue of Motor Trend magazine examined the proposed 454 c.i. version of the 1969 ZL1 427. By that, we're referring to Duntov's plan to offer an all-aluminium 454 big-block Corvette. As we all know, those plans were shelved, but not before they got in some track time.

The link below is to a 2015-update to the story, but first here's a look at the exotic 180-degree exhaust headers.

And, here's the link to the online story - 1969 Chevrolet Corvette LT-2 Review - MotorTrend

Enjoy the ride!

This quotation is from the online article...
"Then he heard the legend of the Saturday Night Special long-lead press event car. He didn't believe it until his friend Kevin Lambert introduced him to powertrain engineers Gib Hufstader, Tom Langdon, Dan Crawford, and other retired engineers who confirmed the details."

And yet, it was already well-publicized by the original article in the October 1969 issue of Motor Trend - cover shown at the beginning of this thread. Maybe he should have asked me. Now you know one of the reasons why I keep this stuff. LOL.

Here's a quick peek...

Duntov's proposed replacement for the 1969 ZL1 427. This mule was supposed to be released as the 1970 LT2 454...

P.S. This 'mule' is actually a 1968 Corvette that was re-dressed as a 1969, and later (power-plant-wise) offered as a look at 1970.
