Re: CCCUK Corvette 60th Birthday display Coventry Transport Museum 22nd June

Thanks Guys,

I would like to thank all those who turned up, particularly those who started out in terrible weather conditions but kept the faith with the local forecast which turned out to be accurate: mostly overcast but no rain

Some came l long way: from Newcastle upon Tyne in the North to Bournemouth in the South. Tremendous thanks to Alfie Orkin who drove his 1954 C1 from the South East despite the weather, meaning that we had all 6 of the of the current generations on display.

Thanks also to the Committee members who helped marshal the event.

I was really impressed with the Wheeler Dealer team: professional, friendly and with impeccable manners and courtesy.
I was taking some photos at one point and some of the camera crew jumped out of my way, despite the fact that they were working and I was actually in theirs.

Eddie China ad Mike Brewer chatted to all and sundry and seemed to have infinite patience, even with some local teens who were trying to ruin a shot.

At one point Mike called me over by name (bearing in mind he'd met me only once over an hour before and had spoken to many others since), and pointed out that he'd spotted that one of the C3's had dropped a load of oil, and suggested I get some Fairy liquid and a bucket from the Café and tackle it before it caused damage " because you might want to do another display here next year"

How considerate was that?

As it happened the Museum has all the gear to tackle such things and were very cool about it

They were very happy with the day, particularly as they'd asked us to help with the disposal of the car, and one of our members, (Kev Marshall) actually bought it on the spot.
It is a fabulous car, restored to a very high standard and over 200 hours of work had gone into it and it showed. They're giving Kev a fully photo documented record of the entire resto.
The programme airs in September on the Discovery Channel, and we had both press and radio coverage on the day.
Those of you live near to Coventry should see an article in the Coventry Telegraph tomorrow as they had a photographer there all day and I gave them an interview this morning
All in all a good Birthday party for the 'vette
Dave
