Does anyone recognise this Vert

Some detective work required. Some of our members who have been on this planet a few years will hopefully be in a better position to answer this as it date back to the early 1970's. I've had a Scottish gentleman (a non member at the moment) trying to trace some history on a '68 - '70 Corvette rag-top. Originally registered BKY4L. Sharper eyed members will notice later rear lights (with back-up lenses). I'm not too sure about the high back seats. Story is that the car was first registered in the UK to TVR at Blackpool, shortly after that a Mr Phillips in Blackpool, Oldcott Motors in Stoke, someone in Solihul and then a Mr Pearce I think in Brighton. The car has seemingly been up on a ramp for the last 30 or so years. Does anyone recognise this car?

Seems to be a '69 Corvette, by the looks of the door and sides.

The paintwork reminds me on this.

Re: Does anyone recognise this Vert

Many years ago, early / mid 70s there used to be a gaggle of us Piston Heads that would meet up late at night in Central Birmingham, ranging from me in an Imp to someone in an early C3 blue Vette Vert, with all manner of quick motors, from 1440 cc Mini, V8 Escorts, V8 Capris, V6 Marcos, Boss Mustang etc.

A new comer turned up a few times in a White early C3 Vert, then one night he turned up with it resprayed in the Stars and Stripes livery, he was a bit young for a Vette at the time, I only saw it a couple of times in the Stars and Stripes and then we never saw him again, someone said it was the subject of a fire? (before the Vette I think he may have come up in a Europa a couple of times)

You mentioned Solihull not far from Central Birmingham, may or may not be the same, Vette, but I wonder how many White Vert early C3s with a Stars and Stripes livery have ever been around Birmingham / Solihull vicinity from 68 even to date ???

Re: Does anyone recognise this Vert

What initially 'threw' me Mick was being told it was registered as a 327 cu in - hence me thinking it was a '68 (despite rear lights). I was only given an incomplete section of vin number. This shows the car as either being a January 20th 1968 car - or - a May 18th 1970 car (which seems more likely)

Im sure this has done the rounds before, and from memory (a bad one) im sure it turned out that he never actually sat in it or used it, I believe it was done as a promo and he was supposed to use it when over here but im sure it never happened, I may be wrong but I kinda have that in the back of my head, I will look later to see if I can find the thread somewhere

Re: Does anyone recognise this Vert

Vaughn, I was asked by a guy to resreach it for him, but the numbers he gave me did not match any vin or engine numbers.
i believe the numbers he quoted were a complete vin number but he gave me the numbers separately and from that i deduced that the car was a 70 in itself makes it rare as only 6673 were made and second number put it amid year build for the car.
I guess that TVR who were the first british owners wanted to see the workings in order to apply some of it to their cars.
As usual dvla gave the car a reg of the year of import not the build year.
mike.
