Readily available battery..

Hi all.. happy heat wave!

10 year old optima red top won't hold a charge... so I'd appreciate views on the best readily available battery options for a big block c3... e.g., something I could pop to eurocarparts tomorrow to pick up... or could order online and have delivered early next week?

Many thanks for thoughts

David

Just don't see the point in buying another Optima battery - you've just proved the point 10 year life (against a probable 7/8 year life for conventional battery) - elevated cost for just a couple more years Doh I'd simply buy the best quality standard type battery at half to two thirds the cost and budget on replacing a little more frequently if keeping the car. I'm on my third battery in 18 years Thumbs up

Is cca an issue? The highest i see in most commonly available over the counter battery is about 600... a long way off the optima (800) and below what most of the u.s folks call ''minimum'?

Re: Readily available battery..

I'll check the CCA on mine later - I think it's 660. More than capable of turning over nearly 500 cu in's at 10.5 c/r for quite a long time. On cold starts I always turn over over for up to 10 seconds or so waiting until oil pressure shows before pumping carb to start.

I put a Halfords HCB096 battery in mine, converted to top post. 680 crank amps. With trade card was £80.

Mine's a '68 - I believe a '086' is same overall size as 075 - but taller)
