Electronic ign or new bushes


Hi All
I am considering two new projects on my 79 coupe,one is electronic ignition and the other is fitting poly bushes where they are needed and being as the car has never had the bushes renewed (all be it its quite a low mileage car age will have played its part).I was wondering if any body had an opinion on which would be the easiest job to tackle first,my mechanical knowledge is average but I am more than willing to have a go

Being a 79 C3 you should already have a HEI electronic ignition system,
As for bushes I favour stock rubber, unless you are tearing up on the track, any plus points you gain on the street you loose on ride quality.
That being said if you do want poly dont use them on any shock related parts like shock absorbers etc only pivoting parts.
Only my opinion! Thumbs up

I was considering poly bushes on our '78 and asked a few people in the US for advice as well. The general opinion was to stay with stock rubber, unless planning on track work and... regular replacements.

That said, I did fit them in the rear strut rods about 20 years ago and they are fine and I did not notice any ride change. But importantly, they were a whole lot easier to fit than rubber items and that seems to be the situation in many of the applications.

If I get around to the planned work it'll be rubber bushes.

Re the distributor, one of the best things to do is check that the internals are working as they should, and that really means the weights and springs. Ensure that the advance/retard mechanism all works smoothly, as if it seizes the "dizzy" is stuck in full retard or full advance - ask me how I know! Laughing
