Shooting for 1000whp with my C7 @ Top Cats Racing

Hi All,

I thought it was about time that I shared my C7 Z51 with the world. I bought it a little over a year ago and immediately began work making small changes to the appearance and performance.

With only 3,000 miles on the clock I bolted on a Procharger P1SC kit with a slightly smaller pulley, fitted methanol injection, a Borla Decat X-Pipe and an MSD Atomic Airforce Intake Manifold. This was netting me around 650whp.

At this point, more power was easily had by just switching out the Procharger pulley and spraying more meth.

Sadly it seems that the lifters in the LT1 are made of cardboard, and about a month ago I started to get a slight tapping noise at certain RPM's which was diagnosed as a failed lifter. Boost related? I'm not sure. It probably didn't help, but I've heard lifters go bad in totally stock LT1's so I'm not taking full blame Scratchchin

So fast forward to the end of June, and I dropped my car off at Top Cats racing after hearing lots of good things about their work on Corvettes. I requested a full engine rebuild and brought along the following parts:

Vengeance Racing Forged Pistons
Vengeance Racing Stage 3 Camshaft (+32% fuel lobe)
Brian Tooley Racing Dual Valve Spring kit w/ Titanium Retainers
Vengeance Racing Hardened Pushrods
Corvette C5 Racing (C5R) Reinforced Timing Chain
Brass Bushed Rocker Arm Trunions
Chevrolet LS7 Lifters
Top Speed Decat Long Tube Headers
Chevrolet LT4 Fuel Pump and Injectors
Monster Triple Plate 1500whp Clutch
Red Silicone radiator hoses
ARP Bolt Kit
SacCityCorvette Billet Oil Diverter Barbell

Sadly they haven't even touched the car yet, but I'm going to be jumping on their backs to get this all done, as I want to get my C7 back in time to enjoy some of this good weather.

When the car does come back I will be upgraded to a Procharger F1, direct injection methanol and shooting for 4 digit whp numbers.

Surprised Wow! That's a lot of kit and a lot of horsepower! Looks like you could have the fastest road going C7 in the country!! Clap

What about transmission and traction? Any thoughts?

Presume a parachute is optional? Very Happy

Transmission-wise, I've only got the Monster triple plate clutch. I'm going to keep everything else stock for now and just replace whatever blows up whenever that happens. Surprised I've heard positive things about the rest of the drive-train holding high power levels though, so we shall see.

For traction, the car is running R888R semi-slicks right now with 315's in the rear. Before i take the car to the drag strip I intend on converting the rear end to accept 15" wheels so that I can put on some proper drag slicks.

Parachute is under consideration. I could be wrong, but I don't think you need a chute or roll cage at santa pod do you? Not like a lot of USA drag strips where they boot you out if you start running 10's without proper safety gear.

I liked the rules, especially this one:

It sounds basic but it is mandatory that you have all of your wheel nuts on your wheels! Your car has been designed with 4 or 5 nuts for a reason and there is certainly no performance gain achieved by running with less so don’t try it or you will be turned away!

Well, I guess it was your choice to start out with a modest Z51 when The General could have sold you a better starting point right off the production line.

Good luck with the modifications!
