Re: Oil Pan

Yep, been there, get the car up on ramps, all four wheels if poss, you need to undo the steering centre link and get it out of the way, drain the oil and the pan should come straight off, not a big deal, clean all the old gasket material off well, make sure you get good gaskets and/or use RTV sealant, if you're careful you will have no leaks Thumbs up

If you buy a cheap sump be prepared for it not to fit properly, avoid the £30 sumps as most of the time the bolt holes don't line up properly and it will be really stressful getting it to bolt up and it will probably leak silly

Oh and if it's a different shape/capacity sump don't forget to get the pickup and dipstick for it

Thanks aaroncorvette for the advice, i'm looking at an ally one with fins on *-bay at the moment looks like a summit or a Trans-Dapt Performance but the seller has only given a vague description of it. Scratchchin

Re: Oil Pan

I bought a low profile circle track sump (as my car is low) and modified it myself, it was cheap and Shite, made it fit in the end but it's the last time i'm buying a non branded cheap sump or anything for that matter, it's unlike me to cheapskate on parts and the one time i did it bit me Sad

Re: Oil Pan

I used the one piece seal, it was real easy to fit compared to the other fiddly ones Thumbs up

Re: Oil Pan

what's the best way to get a dent out of the sump or is it not worth the bother and better to buy new one? I have a ball-shaped dent on the front lower corner of it.

Re: Oil Pan

I have found a great way to remove dents to to use a large ball pein hammer in a vice with the round side up. You then use another hammer to dress the dent back out. If you're not careful of course you will end up with a pigs ear! But the beauty is you can always use the flat side of your new ball pein hammer to beat the crap out of your handy work just prior to ordering a new one. Made me feel better. Very Happy

Re: Oil Pan

If you corner hard, its worth considering a big wing sump. Tony aka 'The Nobbler' did his big ends after a 'spirited drive' I took that as a warning and fitted one, no problems so far, but maybe I'm not driving it hard enough Laughing
