Steering

Hi Guys.
Just been for a spin in the car this afternoon and noticed that the steering has a pulsing feeling when going around corners.
Has anyone got an idea as to what it could be?

Low fluid level in the power steering can cause this.

Re: Steering

OK steering fluid in hand Thumbs up , car manual open at correct page Thumbs up. Check picture to see steering resevoiur position in engine Thumbs up .
Now check engine as per picture - no reseviour in said position Scratchchin . So where does this fluid go? Banghead

Just to confirm 1982 vette

Re: Steering

Drivers side of car

Altenator look in front and down into the space in front of the engine.

Round black cap.
(Follow the small pulley belt and the short one is power steering pump.)

That's the one you want.

Mines an 81.

Cheers

Re: Steering

Cheers Max - I couldn't see the wood for the tree's. Mine resevour is above the pully wheels, with "Steering Fluide" on the cap. Doh

On inspection the fluid in the resevior is well topped up however it is a browny colour. Does anyone know if this is OK? or should it be changed, if the latter, is this an easy process and is there anything I should know?.

Perhaps the pulsing on the steering wheel (only when turning) could be somethng else. Scratchchin

Cheers
Rob

Rob, I thought you had an '84! Confused

Could make a difference to who'll look to answer your question, a C3 or C4 guy!

As for the PS; perhaps there's air in the system, are there any bubbles in the ATF?

Re: Steering

A loose belt can cause this. The fluid should be red, not brown, so fresh fluid wouldn't go a miss, use Dexron 2. Could also be a pump on the way out.

Opps Yes you are correct Doh - I got my dates wrong way aroung. I have a 1984 vette imported in 1992, I will check for bubbles and check the belt also.
She is going into my friends garage at the end of the month who is planning on giving here a once over, and if I can solve the problem I will pass the buck to him!!

If its a C4 its more likely the rack that is at fault

Re: Steering

Something I forgot to say. When the car is staionary and I turn the steering wheel to the left or right it still has the pulsing effect.
which makes me think that it could be the pump or the belt.
Any thoughts guys?
