The rad a good place for a electric fan temp switch?

Guys,

The electric fan in the car is operated by a switch - aint the smartest setup, so want to change it for a thermostatic setup where the electric fan automatically comes on when it hits 180deg.

In terms of a location (other than the block) is the drain plug a good location to put a temperature switch for the electric fan? I'm looking to have the switch kick in at 180 and off at 160/170.

I'm looking to put in the bottom left corner of the radiator below:

If so, what size temp switch do I need based on the size of the magnetic drain plug below? (sorry, useless at this stuff! silly )

On the basis that heat rises - the bottom of the rad may not be the best position. If you look at Demon Tweaks, Burton Performance etc etc they usually offer a sensor that you place in the flexible top hose - to fit it you may need to cut the hose in half and re-connect with a short length of steel pipe and a pair of clamps.

Yeah, saw those - but is there going to be that much of a difference between the top and bottom of the rad? I wanted to try and keep the install as clean as possible...

best location is the cylinder heads

surely you would want the stat on the inlet hose to the engine as the thermastat controls the water going into the rad, the rad then cools the water and returns it into the engine. so you only need the fans on when the water returning to the engine is to hot.
