Have a new mirror shipped in from USA for my Bright Red (Original) C5, problem being the mirror is black so has to be resprayed. The spray shop want the colour code but we couldn't find it! Searched doors, bonnet and boot. I have owned the car for 2 years, it was originally imported in 2001 (believe 1999 model) Have VIN number but spray shop insist on colour code to get the perfect match. Can anyone help please?

Re: Paint

Had the same problem with my bright red '87.. Plenty of codes and data around the car but they meant nothing to the paintshop or Halfords either.

I knew the car was GM Bright Red and Halfords mixed me some paint anyway that was a perfect match, but wouldn't repeat it later as it involved the use of lead paint.

I subsequently removed the fuel door and had it matched at a local paintshop. This was the advice Tom Falconer (Claremont) gave me when I asked if he stocked GM touch up paint.

Unfortunately that is the trouble with a red car, they have the biggest tendency to fade, added to this new paint will fade at a different rate, so alas eventually its likely it will show up again.

BUT C5 factory paint seems indestructible compared to earlier cars, so it'll more likely be successful.

For what it's worth, looks like the yellow Tara on my Mother's C5 had faded white, we think it was resprayed at some point in the past. She was really pleased with the job Custom Exotics did on it, but it looks like you've selected a paint shop already.

Re: Paint

According to this site your colour is Torch Red GM code 70
http://www.web-cars.com/corvette/options.php?optionyear=1999

According to this web site http://automotivetouchup.com/choosecolor/choosecolor.aspx?ye...

that colour is code 9075, 70 or WA9075 because 3 torch reds are listed.

I double checked the code of some paint I just bought for myself which was BMW Mini Chilli Red code 0851 and that was the same code this site came up with so looks to be a good source.

Hope this helps

Jon
