Hi guys so I have a 2001 C5 z06 and recently in the cold weather when I drive the car first thing I get a metallic squealing noise which it does sound like it's coming from the clutch area. Now car drives fine no gear changing issues this noise only happens while I'm accelerating and when the car is cold after getting hot and driving it for a while it goes away. Now all I know is the clutch was changed to a sachs clutch back in 2014 due to previous owner having clutch problems and a new slave kit was fitted as well. Noise does not happen when pressing the clutch in or out or free revving the car in neutral again with clutch down or up.

If any can help would be much appreciated.

Hello mate.
I've not heard of this before, but would recommend looking at your clutch fluid condition. It can turn black pretty quick on our cars with contamination from clutch dust. You can basically suck most of the clutch fluid straight out of the reservoir on top, with a syringe. See here:

Probably worth asking your question on the US forums, as surely some will have experience of your issue.
Cheers, Tim.

Hi Tim,

I have changed the fluid, I change it regularly as it does get black pretty quick so I'm sure it cant be that but who knows im not sure as its not got the orignal clutch in but a Sach's clutch kit, I have heard of some ceramic clutches having a glaze on them and can causes noises when cold until they warm up but dont know if the clutch is ceramic. I will have to try an American forum its just so annoying only happens when its cold then as soon as its hot it's fine Banghead Got a ramp booked in a few weeks so going to take the bottom part of the bellhousing off to see if I can see anything when I start it up. Thanks Tim for the response though Thumbs up

Hi, it may possibly be the clutch release bearing, sometimes the bearing dries out and starts to squeal. Good luck.
Mark.

Hi Mark, I was thinking that as well but at the moment it still drives fine and the noise comes and goes its my daily driver so she gets well used, Ramps are booked for tomorrow going to take off the lower part of the bell housing and see if I can hear or see whats going on while shes running. If it gets worse and the noise becomes constant and not intermittent then because im going to be to be getting a few mods next year (headers, intake, Cam) so I will just uprgarde the clutch and slave cylinder and pilot beairn etc etc and see if that fixes the problem.
