In order to help the Nationals Organsers - who will put themselves forward at the AGM ... what is your favourite element of the Nationals?

For me, it's all about the cars. Cloud9 The bird and flying displays and the re-enactments were okay, but they didn't especially add any extra dimension to my day. The car related stuff like the rolling road and merchandise stalls, etc were all a plus. (The beer tent was a winner too! Lick )
There were enough great cars to take a whole day to look at and the variety never makes it boring, even within one generation bracket there's so much variety.
The main thing for me, is catching up with other members that you don't get to see on a regular basis. Lastly, inviting other clubs was a good idea, nice to see a few Mopars, rods and Mustangs etc...... Thumbs up

Its always good to see the cars together but TBH its pretty much the same Corvettes every year. I enjoy looking around the other cars that attend.

The Saturday meal is always fun and well enjoyed. Like the flying display not that bothered about the arena.

At the end of the day I think most go just to catch up with old friends.

No woman with an annoying voice should be allowed in the arena silly

its got to be all about the cars and what you can do in you car like the rolling road etc.

ever thought of having a polishing and valeting company there as once a year i would pay to have my car done, and it would look its best for the nationals.

My own view is it should be opened up more to all American and hot rod clubs so as to become much more like the Billing events.

Whilst I can happily look at a line of Vettes and catch up with friends, the other half soon gets bored. On the other hand she quite enjoys the Billing shows.

The arena events could work with the right attractions, but a birds of prey display where the bird f*cks off into the tree followed by the keeper shouting and whistling at it for half an hour is a complete no no. One though was to approach one of the main drag race teams (top fuel or funny car) to maybe put on a static display, with a possible engine fire up at some point (if the H & S idiots allow it !) Banghead

Another idea, maybe some live music during the day ?

I agree with Ian the 5th on that one. A good band would be worth a look. I recall a thread here a few months ago where several of our members were discussing what instruments they played. How about our own version of 'The cccuk's got talent'? We could vote the losers off with a shower of raw eggs! Laughing

Ian the 5th Laughing Like it johnny ! Clap

The 'cccuk band' idea may be okay, but I was thinking more of a local group. There must be many around that area who would welcome the chance to play to a different type of audience. Could also bring in a new group of people to the event if the band has a loyal local following. That can only be good for the club can it not ?

Not to sure what thread to put this in with the 30th Anniversary Nationals going as well but here we go.

I have been one of the organisers of the Nationals for the last three years and every year we have tried to give the members what they wanted as we have asked for feedback every year. Last year we had birds of prey that were static and we were asked if we could have a Falconry display next year so we did.
The rolling road has taken 3 years of trying to actually get one to attand the Nats and it was not actually used that much so we may struggle getting it again but I am sure next years organisors will try.

Ian V made a comment that we should open it up to more car clubs. The last 2 years we have invited over 25 American / Hot Rod car clubs and well you have seen how many wanted to come, in fact a lot of them did not even respond to the invite.
Poishing Valeting companies have been at the Nats for the last 3 years and have been doing demonstrations on members cars over the course of the weekend

I think I saw a comment on the other thread about changing the event to a one day show. This was discussed but I believe you would get less people show up as they will not want to travel the distance for one day and a lot of people enjoy the Saturday night. Also it would not save on cost as you would still need to hire the ground for the whole weekend as you would still have to set up the day before.

I did look last year at changing the venue but the cost some places were charging for the hire of the grounds was over double the cost of Huntingdon so it was just not viable, which is one of the reasons why it moved from Knebworth. Yes we could change venues but would the membership be happy paying £20 plus to get in I don't think so, but that is not to say it cannot be done.

I think this thread will be good as the next organisors (thats if someone steps forward at the AGM) may actually get the feedback we have been after all along, Its just to late for me to use it as I am not re-standing as Nationals organisor next year
