Dead battery

Hi all.

What battery does everyone recommend for an 87 c4? My red top optima is dead. Doesnít hold charge according to my ctek charger. Tried charging it twice. Takes about 24 hours of charging then the charger flags up the failure wth itís red warning light.

What options have I got for a new battery? The optima fits but only just about. I have to have it sitting on top of the outer edge of the battery tray. Otherwise I canít get the negative battery lead on due to the structural brace. Most batteries I see on Tanya.co.uk are 5mm larger than the optima but then they can also be shorter at the same time so I guess the lead would go on.

All help greatly received!

Re: Dead battery

Tanya batteries with side terminals will fit fine.. You don't need an Optima battery. The regular ones are just as good and probably the only place you'll get a side terminal battery at a reasonable price and with a decent no-quibble warranty.

Bought two for my '87 and S10 truck which were parked outside and in daily use all winter. No problems.

Re: Dead battery

Thanks. My battery cabling has been changed I think and needs standard top posts. Are the side terminals the same kind of shape and size (kind of like American hard gum shape!)???

What CCA do I need?

Re: Dead battery

If you need a standard terminal battery, measure your dimensions needed (there's quite a bit of space in there so a few mm either way shouldn't matter) and check with Tayna what they have that would suit you. You can message them as they are on Fb.

My CCA is about 600 which throws the motor over just fine (it's an easy starter anyway since I refurbed the fuel system and bumped the initial timing from 6 to 10deg)

I can also recommend Tayna batteries. Well priced & excellent service
