MCE Insurance discounts

Just had my renewal through from MCE so though I would call them to make sure my 15% discount was on with being a member of the CCCUK. I was told that yes the discount had already been applied to my renewal quote (which I dont know how as I never told them I was a member and they did not ask for a membership number) and that the discount is 10% not 15% as it says on the website ?.

Re: MCE Insurance discounts

Have to say I use MCE, the first year rate was excellent, and then the renewal price was much higher, however I went back to them and told them I thought it was excessive. They went away to investigate and came back with a rate which was the best I could find. So still with them....

Re: MCE Insurance discounts

Had a call from MCE on Sunday firstly telling me my insurance ran out that day (which it did not) and also asking if I was going to renew. As I have had no response here about the club 15% discount I asked them again and was told yes I could have 15% discount but that was on a different policy type and it would cost me twice as much to have it so its hardly a club benefit is it. Lesson learnt that club benefits aren’t always a benefit. I did eventually get the premium down to a fair price but was told I would have to take it out that day (Sunday) because this week it would go back up to the full renewal price. Guess who I’m not insuring with and when my other cars insurance is due that wont be with them either.

I negotiated the discount with them and I have an email saying 15% - I will take it up with them as this is not what I was expecting.

Rich,

Just to give another view on the matter, I got my best quote from MCE and although was happy to go with them, I wasn't at any time asked to prove I was a CCCUK member - I just told them I was.

I mentioned them to a buddy who has just bought a 02 Camaro. He also got his best quote from MCE, but isn't a member of any club.

Whilst we are both happy, it just seems a little inconsistent to me....

Thanks for that Rich it does seem that they are being a bit inconsistent. In the end I went with another club recomended Insurer (Stevenage) and they were absolutley brilliant and I will be moving the insurance for my Dodge to them when that is up for renewal.

When negotiating discounts we always ask what evidence is required. Some companies seem to want proof and others don't, but I guess that is their decision. The insurers can arguably be a little more relaxed than say general traders, as if you tell an untruth on the proposal (i.e. that you are a member when you are not) then you could well invalidate your insurance???

Incidentally, Bowler, PM me your membership number and I can amend your website status to Club Member.

Re: MCE Insurance discounts

Well I have just re insured and went through various companies including MCE.

It seems the Insurance industry is like all other businesses they like to make a profit, but its your job to make sure they earn their profit and its reasonable.

Rules:
Dont renew with same company without getting competitive quotes from others
Dont be bullied by "to get this special price you need to sign or pay NOW"
Dont tell them the price they have to beat (This drives em mad)
Dont lie

Do tell them you are shopping around and want to use them but they must give you their best price as you will only give them 1 chance

MCE were £100 more expensive than the winning insurer I chose who is

A PLAN - All done on telephone and paperwork arrived next day WELL DONE

Give A Plan at Newbury a call 01635 874646 as other branches may not be as switched on as them.

Regarding club discount from various suppliers, I think suppliers need to be made aware we are looking for the best deal not 15% of an inflated price. What we want is genuine discounts!!!!!!!!!!!
