Well done to all of the above, there were so many outstanding cars with little to choose between them in many cases. Yes
Daren's cars- as always, looked resplendent,he had 3 'vettes on display. He must drive his 2 'spare' vettes by remore control! He's a very dedicated 'vette man and a bit of a perfectionist. He's setting the bar high! Got to admit that his '61(?) S7EED is absolutely jaw-dropping- if only it were automatic! Laughing

Re: 2010 Nationals - list of trophy winners

Attended Nationals last year and the show was great.Spent ages doing voting slips which i took serious. I was surprised in 2009 when the car that won best of class, best of show, best paint and engine did not turn up for show until after 12.30. I, and many others, had already completed our voting slips.
This year the same person won many trophies. If all the cars picked had been the best cars it would not have appeared unusual.
I spent hours looking at all the cars. The car that won best engine left a lot to be desired. The C2 that won best of class was not a worthy winner. There were far better c2s. I also sat behind the c2 and did not notice many people writing down this car on voting slips.
It appears from talking to others at the end of the show a lot of people were disappointed with the outcome. Was this done to promote certain businesses!! If that is the case it is not far on any corvette member or the public.
Apart from the prize giving the show was fantastic and high praise to the organisers.
Sorry to moan but im sure others will feel the same.

Just so we're clear, are you suggesting that the CCCUK might have manipulated the result for commercial reasons?

No not at all. The club is preat and thinking of joining. Just appeared strange to me what happened at the prize giving in 2009 and 2010.

Ahh OK. I wasn't surprised that Daren's car won last year because it looked "stunning" - but then custom cars often do. Personally I'd vote for something more classic and original-looking than his cars but that's the beauty of a free vote: everybody gets to choose.

The CCCUK is aware of the concerns that this year's results have raised and we're examining ways to make future award categories more flexible to distinguish between custom and original cars. The trouble is, counting the votes already takes a long time so increasing the number of categories is difficult to do without a greater number of volunteers.

Re: 2010 Nationals - list of trophy winners

Jonjonnyc2 has rasied a very valid point and hopefully we can start a useful debate over the judging at the Nats.

This year over 50% of the trophies went to cars associated with a particular business. Their work is absolutely outstanding and I am not critcising them at all as it is in the nature of the structure of the judging that they will invariably win a lion's share of the trophies and have done so in pervious years too.

I feel it is time to say enough is enough and to implement a change to let others win. Trophies are not everyone's cup of tea, but there are members who spend a lot of time (much of it in their spare time and on limited budgets) on some rather superb cars who simply don't get a look in and to me this is not fair.

I don't know what others think. Nor am I sure how we can structure any revisions to make it simple for the voters to understand.

Incidentally, no sour grapes on my part as I'm cool about trophies even if my car was a worthy candidate (which it isn't).

As Ben has said, we are aware of the concerns & will be discussing ways to hopefully keep all parties happy at our next meeting.

JonjonnyC2: Firstly, welcome the Forum Wave

However, I must say that your first post on here could be interpreted as a little “controversial” to say the least, but I respect the fact that you are entitled to voice your opinion.

At the end of the day, the voting process is about opinions of those who choose to vote and I like many others will have different opinions to you, as (like I have said many times before) beauty is in the eye of the beholder…

I can tell you that I was one of the team that counted the votes at this years Nationals and I can report that the processes was conducted very professionally and was taken very seriously by those overseeing the counting process (not me, I hasten to add). Therefore the results produced were 100% genuine.

You should, however, also remember that only member’s cars displaying a membership sticker, can win in any class, so there may be occasions where the “best” car on show is not a member and therefore will be excluded.

Like in any voting process, it is impossible to stop groups deliberately voting “en-masse” so whilst you may have a view that something may have been going on, it cannot be stopped for what is, after all, not a competitive event.

Ultimately, with the exception of one or two categories, the cars that will attract most attention (and therefore most votes?) are those that have had a significant investment made in restoration and/or personalisation. So, for me it is easy to see that the stand-outs were those that had the most shiny bits or trick paint and if these were from professional businesses, then there is/was nothing to deal with that.

Also, I must question your comment about the same cars winning this year as last. I’m not 100% sure on this, but I was under the impression that previous year’s winners are excluded from the individual classes as they are entered into the “Premier Class”, but to be fair, this may not be clear to those voting. In 2008, one car swept the board (it was and still is, stunning) so this would have been in the Premier Class in 2009. This year it would not have been, so the opportunity rises again for it to attract a lot of votes in various categories

So, in summary whilst many will not agree with your comments, it is all about opinions…..

Despite all of this, please do not let this put you off joining. As you say, it’s a great Club

Re: 2010 Nationals - list of trophy winners

I think we need to lighten up a little, winning a pot is great, but in all honesty not exactly life-changing. I'm sure the guy who won multiple trophies is happy, but wouldn't kick the stool away if he won nothing as, after all, it's up to the voters ultimately.
It's nearly impossible to totally restore a car and for it to look pristine even 3 or 4 years later, so the newest restos tend to be the shiniest and most outstanding candidates and people will generally vote for a shiny colour as opposed to say a dark green or brown car.
Probably 90-plus % of attendees on Sunday never even considered themselves as contenders for a trophy so it isn't really of that great importance in the grand scheme of things. What mattered is the cameraderie among the club members and the cccuk's presentation to the public. Thumbs up
As an aside, how does 'best late C6' get judged?!! You've got a bunch of year old cars that haven't even been serviced and the sum total of their owner's interraction with them is turning the start key!!! Laughing Listening to all the banter among the classic 'vette brigade and brilliant anecdotes of renovation masterstrokes and headaches, I often wonder what there is to talk about with the newer models??? Scratchchin
