Hi guys
Had the car che ked out for a small missfire but was told bottom end had a slight knock.
Looks like some sort of rebuild is needed but I'm not an expert and was hoping someone can point me in the right direction for a mechanic near me

I'm in Surrey but happy to go a bit out to find the right help

Thanks in advance

Unfortunately all the garages I could recommend are around East Midlands where I live . Good luck with the search .

Hi Tam - perhaps join-up go to a Surrey meeting and find out from local members (who may not come on this forum) who they use. What is the nearest large town to you in Surrey/Kent/Sussex?

Maybe try Ian Allen in Virginia Water. Not used them myself but they offered a great service for a mate when he needed a new key programmed.

Tbh Tam the Surrey members perhaps are not over active on here - they have a 'presence' on our FB pages. Perhaps ask on there also, IAM are more likely to look at late model stuff.

Have a chat with Matt Davison at CCMVettes. he was the lead mechanic for Tom Falconer's Claremont Corvettes and set up his own business when Tom retired. His garage is is at the back of where CC was in Snodland in Kent which is an easy 30-40 min run on the M25 from Surrey depending where you are. You can get him on 07842 496988 or ccmvettes@hotmail.com

Hi guys

Well it seems the missfire getting fixed made bottom end to knock badly

Now faced with repair a few thousand pounds, buy a long blocked and transfer old parts as above plus a thousand or 2 or buy a crate engine 7k ish...

Depends on how good your Vette is overall - what other spec's the car has, original engine spec, auto, manual etc, 2 bolt or 4 bolt bottom end........how much money you have detirmines how fast you'll go. Smart move could be a rebuild of current engine as is......if it needs a crank, well a stroker crank build up will be similar cost to stock crank build up. Theres a few on the forum that have done the 383 stroker 'thing' - that plus a pair of good heads will certainly make the car gutsy.

You can also try Real Steel http://www.realsteel.co.uk/section3a.pdf who are near Heathrow. Their prices include VAT and for the amount you spend you would qualify for the 10% discount scheme and also that gives you tech support a year which may be useful if you are going to switch the engines yourself.

Worth a detailed comparison of what you get.

Just checked with Colin Bruce who runs the Surrey group on local mechanics:

"There are two garages in Surrey that work on Corvettes. Richard Backhouse at Surrey Lodge Motors near J13 of the M25 and Ian Goss Motors in Surbiton."

Well done, gets you back on the road for the summer. When you next pull away you will realise how little power your old motor had.👍
