1995 C4 Cutting Out H16 Code

My 1995 C4 has cut out on me twice now on 2 separate occasions once last month and once today.
Each time the engine was up to temperature and at idle RPM. After the 1 time I pulled the diagnostic codes and got an H16 which i believe is Distributor Ignition System Low Pulse?.

I cleared the code in order to see if this happens again and do i get the same code.

So today the car started first turn as it always does and ran as normal but whist at idle on the MOT ramp it just died again? No amount of cranking would make it start. After about 20 mins once the engine had cooled if fired instantly and ran fine?

Not pulled the codes yet but suspect H16 code will show again. Cars only done 56K and it had a new Optispark Dist at 51K

Anyone out there had a similar issue and what was the issue?

Thanks

I had a 94 sometime ago. Suddenly got intermittent erratic running, stalling at junctions, not starting, then absolutely fine. Throwing loads of various codes. Checked absolutely everything, in the end I put a new opti on, it was like a new car!
I know you've already change it, but the water pump is directly above & there's a weep hole. Did you change the pump as well? The TPS & MAF can be voltage tested to eliminate them. I'm not an expert but that's my experience. Hope that helps, I'm sure others can give more info. Steve

Cheers Steve. Yes pump changed as well. Starts every time from cold and does not run erratically. Both times its been at idle and its just like someone has turned it off?. I shall check the codes again when i get 5 mins and go from there. Regards Nick

Sounds like a bad sensor( and there's a few) or bad electrical contact. I tested some sensors with a home made rig & voltage meter. I used a 3 way Lego block connector with 6 straighten out paper clips in the holes to bridge the gap when the sensor was unplugged, then checked the voltage. Check TPS MAP MAF. Also the cable from the ECU to opti runs along side the head on the passenger side, could be a heat break, check continuity. I recently had an intermittent no start, nothing at all starter motor. Had a new one put on, same thing. Turned out just a bad connection in a connector on the bulkhead, from key to solenoid. LOL, simple fix!
