Can anyone help with engine number decode; year model etc, for code IM0615 9VR stamped in the front right of my block?
Thanks

A couple of us have had a look at this and our conclusions were much the same I think.

The format is definately unusual, and some of the characters are not in the order that we would expect. But there are a few codes seem to be likely.

"M" would relate to an engine manufactured in Mexico.
0615 would probably signify the build date, ie 15th June.
"I" could possibly in fact be a 1, which might imply Chevrolet. (This would normally be stamped after the M)
VR signifies a '69 350 C-20 & 30 Truck Engine, 255 HP, with 4 Barrel carb and, 3 Speed.
My thinking therefore is that the "9" signifies the year of manufacture, 1969.

It's not conclusive, but I suspect pretty close! I decoded the numbers on the diff of our '78. They identified the gearing and date and place of manufacture, but there remained one unidentified character that detailed searches and conversations with NCRS experts failed to resolve, so these things do not always conform to what the books say!

It might help identification if you could post the block number. It's cast into the top back section of the block and not always easy to see - it can be masked by the distributor or coil. If you can find it it will at least indicate what the engine started out as and when it was produced

Thanks for the info. Here is a pic of the block casting number which I believe makes it a 'crate' engine of some description(?) and one of the whole engine though I doubt that will tell you much! I'm sure the car was rebuilt in the mid 80's as it has a Californian DMV issued VIN. Just trying to fathom out the engine as the Rochester carb on it I'm told is from a later car/truck with ECM. Thic car hasn't got ECM so the carb is un-tuneable and I need a replacement. Also looking for a carburation expert in Essex to advise.......IMG_1102.JPGIMG_1099.JPG

Trev, if you can find it, it may help. Got a photo of the engine in general by the way?

10066036 decodes as a post 1986 350 Car and Truck 2&4 bolt passenger stick (?) 1-piece seal. Target Master/Goodwrench crate motor

..........................oh!....and I think the engine number at the front of the right bank of cylinders ends 9VP and not 9VR! The car is 3 speed

It looks as though this is, in fact, a crate engine, built in Mexico and probably destined for a truck. Have a look at this thread on Corvette Forum, which is seeking info on a very similar number.

By all accounts, the engine that you have isn't a bad deal!

The carb should have a number stamped into the left hand side (that would be drivers side, but Corvettes "sides" should never be referred to that way, always left and right as seated in the car). That number will (hopefully!) tell you exactly which carb it is.

The carb identifier on the left side is very very worn! photo shows and stamp on other side. Deffo a Rochester Quadrajet but of what vintage unknown. Would be interesting if the engine is as new as a 09, I suspect much earlier though it does have 'Goodwrench' stickers on the rocker covers.

As you say the ident number is very faint. I can just make out a 170 prefix, making it a post 1975 Quadrajet. The clearer markings underneath are probably a date code followed by a DLC plant code.
