1968 Big Block C3 coupe for sale

CCCUK Chairman
I’ve been considering selling my 20 year owned Corvette for the last couple of years. A few ongoing health issues, lack of time, money and determination have (and are) preventing me from completing my original aim of of a modern street going version of a 60’s styled stack injected car.
The car is basically a very original matching numbers first year C3 390 hp L36 427 coupé optioned with F41 ‘Slalom’ suspension, P/steering and non/power brakes, 4 speed close ratio Muncie, 3.08 LSD rear end.
Currently fitted with John Sleath Racing built 489 cu in ‘stroker’ engine (on totally re-built, seasoned 4 bolt block) Forged 10.5 c/r JR forged pistons. Forged Eagle crank and rods. Brodix Race Rite ally oval port heads. Howard flat tappet hydraulic camshaft. MSD billet tach drive distributor and 6T ignition. Edelbrock Air Gap RPM inlet + Proform 950 cfm double pumper carb. Hooker Super Comp headers. Hayward & Scott built 3” dia stainless steel ‘X’ pipe exhaust system.
Dyno’d at 571 bhp @ 5850 rpm with 606 ft/lbs torque @ 3850 rpm. Fitted with Dewitt OEM style ally radiator. (comes with stock Harrison radiator core). Clutch is Centerforce dual friction. Flywheel is Centerforce. Wheels are super rare Boyd Coddington Junk Yard Dog billet and cast ally 18” diameter, 8” wide on front with 255/45/18” Toyo’s and 9” wide on rear with 295/40/18” Toyo’s under stock fender openings. After-market L88 style hood. Other than Koni gas shocks the chassis and running gear is totally stock.
Comes with original number matching 427 engine, 4 no. later 8” OEM steel wheels and OEM big block hood.
Car is very original in white with black interior. Paint is best described as ‘driver quality’, perfectly acceptable with a few minor digs, scrapes and wear and tear but importantly no micro-blistering or de-lamination and only very minor surface‘ star’ crazing on a few panel openings.
Before my ownership the car has had the chassis welded and plated in the usual places in front of rear wheel wells etc, untidily done but solid. Interior is in reasonable order but seats need refurbishing. Centre console is untidy. Comes with new (unfitted) carpets, new (unfitted) door cards, some new T top/door seals, later oversized driveshafts, modified trailing arms + loads of other bits and pieces collected over the last 20 years.
The 489 cu in engine was very carefully built to provide maximum torque (rather than BHP) and amazingly despite 50% more BHP and torque (and 1000cc) than stock actually has better fuel economy than the L36 427 engine. I’ve seen 16 mpg on a motorway cruise.
I have deliberately chosen not to modify the bodywork so the next owner can choose to use as a running restoration with current engine – or return to stock with original engine.
With big block chrome bumper C3’s getting very scarce this is a great opportunity for someone wanting an early manual car. I have £30K+ invested in this – looking for offers over £28K
