To Stingray, the battery is still under the bonnet, towards the nearside rear. The metal canister you refer to, I believe was advised to be to do with the air conditioning.
Fascinating car IMO. Should make someone a great purchase. It's surprising there aren't more similar conversions in UK with parts sourced from "down under".
Amongst other things I was interested to see it's a manual. To my mind autos would be easier to convert because there's no clutch pedal and I think the driver's side of C5 cockpit was wider than the passenger side, even though the torque tube is central.
