Hi all,
Newbie to this site, also to any form of car restoration works 😳. Looking for advice after viewing a 1980 C3 corvette with a dropped drivers door. How hard is it to change the A post all the way down to the chassis rail? There is rust amd the door has definitely dropped. Thanks in advance Mike

This might be one to walk away from as you are a newbie to car restoration unless you have very deep pockets !

If the dropped door is definitely due to rust in the 'A' post, there is likely to be extensive rust in the rest of the birdcage and possibly the frame too. I'm with Chuffer - for a newbie this is probably one to avoid.

Are we all 100% sure the 'dropped' door is simply not a badly worn upper hinge pin? - has anyone tried ('eyeing-up) the fender to door gaps and seeing if they change when jacking the car up? - can you open/shut the doors when jacked-up?

My C3 is undergoing extensive renovation and has, or had, a dropped drivers door. The birdcage is fine and a new hinge pin cured the issue. That's not to say rust isn't the cause here. Don't let a good one get away fearing the worst when it may not be, if in doubt get it checked by someone knowledgeable.
