Do not know if you have this in your country but us crazy American Corvette owners like to haul ass
Here one of the way to do long distance high speeds is called Open Road Racing (ORR)
This first started by a long time friend of mine, two time Indy 500 winner - Rodger Ward in the mid 1990s

Thought I'd Give you some first and video of these races that were anywhere from 80 to 120 miles long in states of Nevada and Texas
Public roads are rented, closed off to the public and we racers haul ass of speeds for the Corvettes of 130 to over 200 MPH
Roads used travel through mountain or hills and elevations run from 4,500 to 6,500 feet above sealevel

Normally hot weather like 90 F degrees which is hell as your wearing full Nomex gear, full faced helmet, gloves, etc,
Windows up and no A/C running, so sweat is running down your head into your eyes.
Consider covering a football field (300 feet) per second or more and having blind corners and hills
If you ever come to the USA try planning on going to one of the 4 ORRs that still happens per year

People are known to fly here, rent a car and then go hall ass.

Imagine having up to 120 non-stop miles, being able to use both sides of the road and the only thing to worry about is wild animals like steer, buzzards or snakes on the road, and you can go as fast as the type of safety gear either you or the vehicle has

Corvette owns these types of ORRs as they really can handle the high speeds and quite easy to take a corner speed sign saying 45 MPH and you fly through at 120 MPH
Giving you different view from my Corvette in-car video, to from a course worker, to when shown on live TV with ESPN sports channel

Will watch those tomorrow

Motorsport on public roads was banned in the UK back in the fifties. They changed the law a couple of years ago so it can happen again but that was just before Covid so there’s not been too many events.

Hence the legend that is Big Red.
We dont have roads and States like that. I dont think shutting the M40 down and going London To Birmingham would be quite the same.
Towns here have found allowing this by renting out the road for 1 or 2 days brings in a lot of income for them
If all the motel rooms rented for the weekend, is sold out, all the gas we buy, food, night-life and free marketing
Could not even guess how much beer, wine, etc is bought
And this brings countless people to come to watch the race, so there is a huge amount of money spent on those race weekends

One ORR in Texas Fort Stockton found so much profit they now host and put the race on themselves, so all profit goes to them

Is a shame as over here it is common for roads to be rented to do 1 and 2 mile standing start races, ORRs, Pikes Pike, rallies, etc
Parking lots even get rented to do autocrosses, etc

One exception to the rule is the Isle of Man TT races..
(typical of UK roads)
Six lap race, one lap is 37.73 miles.
The lap record for the Senior TT class is 16 minutes and 42.778 seconds at an average speed of 135.452 mph (217.989 km/h) set by Peter Hickman during the 2018 Senior TT Race. The race record is also held by Hickman in 1 hour, 43 minutes and 08.065 seconds; an average race speed of 131.700 mph (211.951 km/h) achieved during the same 6 lap race.

Any motor events that occur on UK roads can hardly be described as high speed - generally a simple rally or 'treasure hunt' for charity. The few events that happen on UK roads are relatively short 'hill climbs' - usually a few twists and turns up a gradient where a section of road is shut for the day - depending on location three figure speeds are feasible although officially road rules and speed limits still apply. Theoretically a road race could happen on UK roads but this would be subject to local authority approval. Health & Safety, insurance, crowd control, ambulance and fire facilities would have to be provided............and then the tree huggers would look to get the event shut down. We're a busy, heavily congested country and something worthwhile I'm guessing would be very difficult to organise. Yet, if you're a bike racing enthusiast you can take a trip over to Ireland where they regularly have road races for bikes............

If people in your country wanted to set up to do this type of racing events, they would be welcome to contact us here
and we can give them all the safety and rules we put together and how to stage the race, etc

Here is everything we put together for ORR series I co-hosted your guys could make use of.

ARRA ORR

We also could show it is safe to run speeds as below on most main roads like here in the USA

Most doing these ORRs cars have a driver and a passenger that is the navigator
I choose not to, so I did both tasks which made it even tougher

Few scoring times of one of the ORRs , in this case the road was 118 miles in total
This is in MPH and elapsed time mins/secs

Ha! 😊 😊 It'll nevvver happen!:confused::confused::):)

The Uk still think the car is a fad and it'll soon go away - I'm sure they's like to bring back the Red Flag Act!

Wow, they call that a road, pretty narrow, so why pick that for a road course ?

Was the car in front, some ole lady going to the store ? :)

Well, theres no sheep or cows on the road so i would say thats about as good as it gets in Ireland.
A slower competitor in front.

If the Global Warming lot are correct and the fair county of Wiltshire in England turns into an uninhabited Desert then im sure the powers that be will let us close off the A303 occasionally to run flat out, just need to get rid of the roundabouts and were good to go.

I dunno, the roundabouts would make for more fun driving. Otherwise its just flat out straight speed, so may as well close a motorway and use that.

OK so long as nobody thinks they can take them at 160mph like the bends in Nevada/Arizona.
Better make sure your brakes are up to the job.

The Birmingham Superprix 1986 - Formula 3000 round the City Streets of Birmingham, It was Marin Hone who got it off the ground, Stirling Moss had tried previously, but I think failed at the Council level
However in my earlier years I found street racing approval was not requested, I remember one chap riding shot gun in a 5.7 Capri telling me that they took off at the hump in Gas street and he was looking down on the roofs of the parked cars either side of the road, at the bottom on the bend was a Night Club called "The Opposite Lock Club" once owned at one time by the very same Martin Hone
