We all want good quality parts at a reasonable price

Just a thought:
Last year I wanted a particular set of wheels for my 1997 Jeep Wrangler TJ.
Nowhere in UK or EU could supply them so i went on the hunt on the internet.
I found various places in the US that could sell me the wheels at a good price, however as soon as the shipping quote of $1000 to ship 5 wheels was added then i thought that plus the price of the wheels $600 plus 10% duty then 20% vat it became a non starter. I even thought of bringing a few back in my luggage when i next visit US.
So i continued my pursuit and looked on ebay USA and found that some venders would ship thro the ebay global shipping plan which they also work out the duties as well.
I managed to get my wheels for around $1100 all in at the time.
So my first question is has anyone got any clout with any of the big US suppliers in that they can use ebay global shipping because it would be one hell of a saving on shipping costs etc.
And for the record i was a bit apprehensive at first , five wheels what could go wrong !!!! but i didnt need to be as they arrived a month later without even a mark on any of the boxes.
I know it would take a bit of work but look what we could all save.

I think you may find that Keith Beschi can handle shipping of items bought in the US? May be worth talking to him?

I have purchased many items from eBay.com and they have been shipped through the global shipping programme, all have arrived in good time without any problems.
Quite a few corvette parts suppliers use this for items they have listed on eBay.

I've bought some parts using ebay's global shipping programme, works out cheaper. I too would also appreciate if other US sellers could get with the (global) programme, as like said originally so annoying to find a part for cheap in the US, but the price delivered to UK is many, many times more than the part is worth. And if some can deliver it cheap to the UK, why can't the other suppliers?

Yes indeed. Even with the global shipping programme shipping cost vary enormously depending on where it is being shipped from.
A item sent via The east coat is much cheaper than the same item being sent via the west coast. All those extra internal miles have to be paid for.
Same with shipping a car. I always try to find vehicles on the east coast FL , GA , AL SC NC etc. Less cost on road freight to port.

Something worth considering to reduce the cost of importing from the States is the use of a shipping agent like MyUS. The things you buy are shipped to your "address" in Florida where they're then forwarded to you in the UK. This is useful if buying from several different suppliers as MyUS consolidates them all into one shipment at an advantageous price and even more useful if the seller offers free shipment within the United States. I've used them a few times and found them very helpful. They also provide full tracking during shipment.

We all just need to remember that where possible we should support a UK based specialist if possible. Yes, they can be more expensive than shipping-in ones self......but (and providing the item is in uk stock) you have the advantage of possibly collecting and checking that its correct before purchase - and - you know what the price is before you purchase (rather than afterwards when all the carriage and duties roll in). If you're not in a hurry and are 100% sure of getting the right item, then yes punt around the international suppliers for the best price to your door.
