Hmm not that keen on a lot of these re ferrari kits but Id rather have a c4 underneath it than an MR2, the auto kraft daytona spyder tho is in a different league , have you seen the price those are bringing . I once saw an escort xr3 with a testa rossa styled body kit

As I remembered it, the original Autokraft Daytona Spyders were based on "real" Daytona coupes where they (Brian Angliss) converted them to convertibles/Spyders:

The nice thing about the UK auto craft replica Daytona’s was that they used the Jaguar 5.3 V12. This looked very realistic in the engine bay especially with Ferrari detailed rocker covers.

Ahh ! That could be me confusing the autokraft name, there was another make of replica i think as i saw one in a bonhams catalogue and it still listed the previous owner as a local garage owner in cornwall, I will see if i still have the catalogue, unless it was an autokraft and if they were real daytonas that would explain the price. My 63 year old brain can be a bit fuddled

My friends dad bought a new “Daytona” coupe in 1971 or 1972 kept it until the 365 BB Berlinetta Boxer came out in 1974. Traded in the Daytona on it. He’s still got the BB. It’s sitting in the garage covered in rubbish , hasn’t been started in probably 30 years. But it’s in excellent condition. I remember like yesterday the day he bought it home and gave us all a run round the block in it. At the time the front engined Daytona was old hat against the mid engined boxer

I only glanced at the notes re the sale lot. If your are interested let me have your address and you can have the catalogue , it is the goodwood members meeting sale in 2020 I think. They are quite interesting coffee table reading

My friend bought a set of 250 testa rossa panels from a guy that apparently had to destroy the moulds. These were to graft on to a 240 z , unfortunately the datson he bought was absolutely rotten and he gave ip and flogged the panels on , often wondered where they ended up.

According to this, in 1972 a new GTC/4 was £9,970, the GTB/4 Daytona "Coupe" was £22 more. How much did Autokraft charge to convert your Daytona Coupe to a Spyder? Dunno. Per Wikipedia, there were 156 UK/RHD Daytona Coupes and 7 RHD Daytona Spyders produced by Ferrari. Why so few Spyders?

I always like the 365GTC/4 but it lived in the Daytona’s shadow, and still does.
Ferrari limited the amount of spyders they were prepared to build. The 7 RHD ones were notoriously hard to sell when new. A couple of them sat about in the showroom a couple of years from their 1973 build and were greatly discounted.
One of them is quite famous and registered ULT1

An interesting fact , the garage owner made national headlines back in the 70,s when after losing his driving license through numerous speeding convictions in exotic cars he bought a helicopter. Subsequently turning that new hobby into a helicopter charter and filming company and later expanding into a helicopter servicing agency. Talk about turning a negative into a positive ! , A proper entrepreneur

Interesting that "out of the factory" Daytona Spyders were hard to sell in 1973, but see that the 2 (of the 5) Daytona Coupe to Spyder conversions above by Autokraft, were done in 1978.
