I know these cars are far removed from the outright LSR cars but isnt it strange that its been 51 years since the US last broke the outright record and 38 years since they held the record. Have they given up?

To most of the 'flats racers' outright records are not the goal. Its the 'class' records that mean something to them. One of my old customers prepared and took a bike over there. Looking to 'claim' a bike title. The bike was an early 70's Triumph 750. He simply sourced a low pressure supercharger (oddly from a late model Mini) and that put it in a specific class that no one had contended for 20 years or so (with suprisingly a speed in the low 100's to beat) - mechanical issues at the 'Flats brought things to a close unfortunately.
