What have you done today

The Mustang 11 had everything going for it - so 302 engine (albeit 136 hp) small size (so UK 'friendly'.....ish) - a surprisingly comfortable ride noy far behind a intermediate or full size car. However with mere 13" wheels and tyres it didn't go around corners. Being based on a Pinto body and suspension perhaps if named something other than Mustang it might have been remembered better.........it sold well in the USA - my missus loved her rhd UK spec' 302 Ghia......

Mr Roscobbc, was your wife’s Ghia dark metallic brown with a tan half top? A fantastic colour combination for the mid/late 70’s. The 70’s as a whole were very brown.

Sweet, looks brilliant in blue. Full vinyl roof and factory slots set it off. Lovely looking car. Would like to own it now.
A far as yanks go, a nice size, and RHD to boot.

Just checked your reg, no record of it at the DVLA. I wonder if it’s still about on a different reg number.?
No. It was scrapped. Bought it cheap and deliberately ran it on a miniscule budget. Missus had a virus of some kind for a couple of years that weakened her muscles. She still needed a car to run kids to/from school if I was away working. Few cheaper used Brit cars in the mid 80's had the ultra light power steering and auto transmission she needed. Arguable the very best rack and pinion front clip of any car.....ever..... proof being that rodders are still using them today. We sold to a young lad who then wrapped it around a lampost a few weeks later. I bought the wrecked car back and then sold it to someone building a Cobra replica for the engine in the late 80's. They really drove well and a great alternative to a Cortina Ghia of the day (except for fuel economy)

Another sad end to a yank. Looked really great in that photo. I think vertically all the Ghia’s dad got hold of were that brown colour. That blue really pops.

That’s not too far for me, but evenings are a bit difficult at the moment as my partner has just had knee replacement surgery so I’m doing everything at the moment as she can’t walk.

Another day back in the `BIG TOY ` box today painting a giant bogie ... if you pardon the pun . All 27 feet of it !! The long process of D123`s body repairs and repaint is gradually approaching completion thanks to the combined efforts of us volunteer members from locomotive association that own the loco and some of the Great Central Railways engineering department paid staff guys to speed up completion in time for its debut at the Diesel Gala weekend in two weeks time . Most of the body panels now sport a prestine livery of 1960`s era British Railways Green with just one end nose section to finish off and the D123 cab side numbers and the British Railways ` Lion on a Wheel ` emblems on the body sides to be applied . The period correct small yellow warning panels are in final gloss paint with no evidence of the modern era high intensity head lights that I stripped out in my previous post . Ignore the `frilly `edges on the yellow paint as they will be masked up when the nose cone gets its green top coat .Today`s task for me and my mate was the gloss black painting of the huge 8 wheeled bogies that carry the electric traction motors which was was a biDSCF3892.JPGDSCF3891.JPGDSCF3890.JPGDSCF3889.JPGDSCF3887.JPGDSCF3886.JPGDSCF3885.JPGt of PIA job with all cab access steps , axle box horn guides , coil springs and leaf springs to deal with . Another session next week with one more bogie to go should see it completed . 🤞

Met up with local CCCUK members Roger & Tina Thornton in their Big Block C2 at `Pistons & Rings` in Staverton , Northants today which is the latest petrol heads venue to open up in our area . The theme was ` Germany versus The Rest ` so plenty of Porche , Audi , VW both old and new models set against a fabulous array of British , American , Italian and JapaDSC_6220.JPGDSC_6203.JPGDSC_6218.JPGDSC_6217.JPGDSC_6216.JPGDSC_6215.JPGDSC_6212.JPGDSC_6211.JPGDSC_6205.JPGDSC_6204.JPGnese cars . The venue is free entry , no booking needed and a totally relaxed vibe with a constant turn over of cars and bikes coming and going all day . Glorious sunshine and blue skies to show off the cars in stunning rural surroundings overlooking the Churwell valley . Good food and bar too ! (y)(y)(y)

Was never a fan of lettered tires on a C2 but I must admit they look pretty good on that 66 big block.
The 69 Mach 1 looks real nice.

A few more eye catchers from today . The bright orange totally rebuilt MGF was more like a scaled down GT40 and sported a tuned V8 . The owner had done all the work himself including constructing all the highly modified body panels . The workmanship was exceptional !
