The production run and no's of the later 454 engines far, far exceeded that of 427 engines. A 454 engine would have been a comparitively inexpensive replacement for a correct date coded 427 engine. Components, even Stateside to rebuild an earlier 427 are becoming difficult and expensive to source.

There was a red C2 just like this including a 454 at Capesthorne a few years back so likely the same Corvette from the Birmingham area. It was LOUD and the owner was thinking about changing the pipes for something quieter. Just checked the location of the garage and it's half an hour away from me 😬 Anyone interested I can go take a look?

There's small blocks out there at higher prices than this is so a potential good buy for someone

Ok just spoke with Gavin at the garage. The car is kept at the owners house and will be driven to the garage for viewings and I'm hoping to take a look next Tuesday. It is the same one I saw at Capesthorne Hall. In conversation Gavin said the garage owner Dave of Dave Fox Cars himself has a C2 in his classic car collection of 50 cars :p

Be nice if a Club member bought it Stuart? This "racer" '65 sold in auction today for £59,800 at Goodwood Revival:

Just saw this picture on Dave Fox cars. Could this be Mr Foxes personal C2?

It’s also in Nassau Blue. The C2’s most popular colour, and thought of as quite outrageous when introduced for the 1965 model year.

Silver has always suited the mid year corvette’s very well in my opinion. Looks very striking with a red interior ( I love red interiors)
I personally think that all the colours for mid years are nice. Reds, blues, greens, yellows, beiges, black and white. All suite the car well in my eyes.

I looked at replacing the 396 black interior to red as, as you say a great combo. 10k easily so no thanks

The interiors of American cars were always so colour coordinated even the dashes were the same colour. That has now turned into a great expense to colour change an interior properly.
American auto manufacturers did learn from the likes of Mercedes and BMW that customers would accept a black dash with any interior colour, so the 90’s saw the demise of the coloured dashes.
So that makes changing a say corvette interior to a different colour an expensive and time consuming/expensive thing as redoing the dash is a must.
I’ve seen many black dashes with different colour interiors on C2’s where the owner/changer has just left the old dash pads, but changed everything else.
Some of the younger generation would perhaps never know as black dashes are now the norm.

I must say 10k would again be a no no for me.

Also, the corvette would probably be devalued by the cost of putting the interior back to original. The corvette community is notoriously anal about originality.

The exception to the dash/interior colour was the white interior on mid year corvettes and for that matter all/most of the big three. Although I have seen a dodge challenger vert with a white dash.

Dashes were usually finished in exterior body colour matched with white seats door panels and trim. Very striking

Would I be right in thinking that the car would be worth more (to the purists?) if it still had the original 427 engine/block in it? In good working order of course. See it still has the 427 Turbo Jet 390 HP air filter sticker on it.

For sure but if you had to replace it a 454 is a good choice

White interiors always looked impressive on any American car, especially convertibles.
Totally impractical, but impressive.
On the way to the 2024 Corvette Nationals on a blisteringly hot day wearing some new khaki shorts turned out to be a bad choice as the drivers seat looked like I had shit myself. Took some cleaning to get that out. I have covers somewhere but they're being illusive.
