Flickering headlights on my 76 coupe

Hi all I have flickering headlights when I go to main beam,I have badgered poor old Gavin as I thought I had purchased the light switch from him but it turns out I didn’t but he did suggest fitting two relays (one for main beam and one for dipped).As the light switch gets hot when being used I thought it was faulty as it is new,but purchased way back at the beginning of the resto,so I was wondering if any one out there has fitted these relays and if I could do it myself as an auto electrician can get quite expensive, Gavin did try to explain how to do it but I’m sure by now he thinks I’m a dyed in the wool idiot with these things(true) so any suggestion/advice is as always very welcome

I'm not sure if this is an answer, but I fitted LED bulbs in my Corvette so it reduces the power required for the bulbs. My hope was that it'll be better lighting, better for the wiring and things won't run so hot.

As to how to fit the relays, no idea. Even with electrical diagrams and people pointing out exactly where things go, I'm still a bit of a numpty when it comes to things like that. But changing a bulb, I can do that. :ROFLMAO:

My suggestion for your fix is to say to your partner you're going out for a lovely long Sunday drive in the Corvette and you'll be home when its dark. Accidentally end up at Gavin's house. If you've brought biscuits and cake you might be able to persuade him to fit these relays, especially as its now late and he couldn't possibly let you drive home in the dark with dodgy lights.

It's fairly straight forward just done a 76 locate the hi and low beam wires as they come into engine bay area near main bulkhead connector cut said 2 wires and attach the bulk head side to each of the one of the relays coil pin 86 ( 1 relay needed for hibeam 1 for low beam ) attach the 2 wires that go to lamps to pins 87 of relays connect pins 85 to a good earth (alternator earth is good) and finally add a fused 30amp live (again from
alternator main live bat post ) and connect that to both of the pin 30 on relays . And hay presto you have both hi and low beam circuits capable of running hi power halogen bulbs without melting the internal switch
