Hi all,
With a heavy heart and after much thought, Chris and I have decided to sell our ZR-1.
This is the barn find ZR-1 featured on The Late Brake Show (Jonny Smith) and also documented as a full restoration project on Auto Funk (which I know many of you follow!).
We’ve spent the past year bringing this incredible car back to life. It wasn’t about making money—just a passion project to save a rare car and share the journey. That goal has been achieved: the car is now road legal, reliable, and drives brilliantly. It has only 43,000 miles from new, and you’d never guess it was laid up for 25 years.
The reality now is we have lots of cars between us (four Corvettes, a Porsche, a Lotus Esprit and many more) and the fleet needs to be slimmed down (plus I would really like a C7 which the ZR-1 would contribute towards!)
If you're interested in the car let me know, you can see it warts n all over on our YT channel but in summary:
1991 Corvette C4 ZR-1
43000 genuine miles
HPI Clear
3x key sets
Invoices for everything listed below
Interestingly it's a German supplied factory euro spec car and came into the UK in the early 90s. I have all the original paperwork, spare keys (x3 power keys) and the original bill of sale where it was 152,000 Deutschmarks (£68,000 in May 1991!!) We are in touch with the first UK owner and we have some photos of the car in the UK in the 90s which is quite nice. It was then sold via Tom @ Claremont to the person we bought it from in around 2000. Rather unbelievably it's got full service history!
The interior is lovely and the overall condition is very good. It is mechanically excellent and highly original. It even has the original solar windshield with no chips or damage, all the original tools and accessories. We've been cautious to restore it with sympathy and respect, there are no bodges or unnecessary modifications.
Paintwork is 100% original - It looks great with a polish but it ideally wants a good painter to touch in here and there and improve it. I think with it being original it would be a shame to respray it.
In the past year it has had every single engine sensor, vac hose, coils, ecu, leads, fuel pumps, filters, alternator (everything) replaced. It's been serviced twice, it's had ALL fluids changed - Gearbox, diff, brake fluid. New brake calipers and discs all round. A high end wheel refinishing with the correct diamond cut lips as per the 91 factory wheels. Heibeck chip. Almost every weather seal has been replaced. Fully ice blasted underneath. The tyres are brand new Nittos in the correct size (which is what the USA owners tend to fit).
In summary we've spent £9500 on parts (no labour charges included!) and £9500 on the car. All are receipted. So it owes us £19,000.
It's MOT'd, insured, taxed and is in regular use. It will be at the Nationals on Sunday this week if you want to see it. If you want a private viewing we can do one in Pye Bridge, Derbyshire or Keyworth, Nottingham.
Outstanding work needed:
AC not currently working
Stereo not currently working
Dash display dim (an easy fix with a kit, we've just not got round to fixing it yet)
The fuel line currently has a temp repair and needs to be fixed more permantly ideally (again something we've not got around to doing but it's an easy repair)
We're looking to recoup as much as possible for the car and we feel like it's probably worth around £17k - If you do happen to be interested in it let me know, it won't be advertised anywhere for the next couple of weeks but I thought I'd mention it on here so the club get a first look basically. If you want to call or whatsapp me I can be reached on 07712426170
