Last of the line 96 car
I will drive this car anywhere in Europe for costs.
For sale is my sleek 1996 Corvette. The C4 was improved year on year during its 12 year production and the later ones are best. This being a final year model, benefits from a vented optispark distributor (the C4 achillies heel), OBD2 compatibility, improved styling on both the interior and exterior and the more powerful LT1 engine.
This is one of a handful 96 cars in the UK and has been fastidiously maintained through its life.
Along with the suspension upgrades, in the last 5000 miles the car has had new brake pads, wheel bearings, track rod ends, ball joints upper and lower, a new flow master exhaust, battery, and a K&N intake. The car also benefits from a gearbox rebuild with upgraded clutches in the same period with receipts to prove. Oil and filter last changed at 85k miles.
To drive: it looks and sounds incredible. In my opinion there is a world of difference between an early L83 car and a late LT1 C4. This one will burble lazily at 1100 RPMs giving you 30 mpg or rev much more noisily with the torque to back it up should you choose. Prod the throttle, hear the thunder and you're away. With the uprated suspension and coil overs, it's much more composed than a C4 is in the bends too, and it turns in very nicely. American car stereotypes don't apply here.
I purchased it after a 4 month search from a bodywork man that personally imported it. He only drove it in dry weather and thus put on very few miles. It's the best of several I considered in my search for a C4. Unfortunately - and I'm somewhat embarrassed to admit this- I can't get it into my garage without ramps as the garage sits atop a steep incline, hence the sale. (yes I should be driving a jeep).
Condition of the car is very good. The all important optispark is in excellent health, the window and hatch weather striping lets in no water, there is minimal interior and seat wear (no rips or tears). Headlight motors work great and a tool for targa removal is present.
The dash, cruise control, AC, electrics and windows all work.
The paint is also excellent with few instances of the spider cracking that these fibreglass cars tend to suffer.
The negatives-
the front plastic splitter is cracked, though this doesn't affect intake operation. These are attainable for about £20
The fact I have to sell: I don't really want to but I can't really afford to repave the driveway to accommodate!
To summarise, this is a clean, usable C4 with some choice upgrades. If you've been looking for one to cherish, here it is.
