What replacement battery is recommended/ do people recommend. AA, RAC say they don't have any, the one fitted, Halfords say is wrong, and the ones I have found on line appear to have the +ve and -ve the other way round to the one that is currently on the car.

Another vote for Optima Red Top, I've had one on the C5 for at least 10 years without any problems at all. If I'm not using the car for a couple of weeks I hook up a battery maintainer which looks after it perfectly.

I had two of the above batteries over the years from Tanya. The first one was delivered in a cardboard box with the battery sitting in an orange plastic tray at the bottom. That tray fitted perfectly into the battery tray in the car when fitting it.

I have a C6 Grand Sport with manual transmission....my battery compartment is in the rear of the car.
Question is:- will the Optima battery fit in there OK 🤔 ❓

Any battery you select must at least meet the cold cranking amps (CCA) as shown in your owner's manual, which states :

770 CCA
Also requires the battery posts be the same (as if top or side mounted)

Hi Chevrolet - with auto trans Grand Sports the battery is situated under the bonnet/hood as with most Corvettes. With the Grand Sport manual cars, ZO6 and ZR-1's the battery is located in the rear/trunk inside the right hand 'cubby hole' as you look inside the hatch compartment. I've measured the current battery in my GS and the dimensions are Length 25cms, Width 18cms and Depth 15cms? Looking at the battery dimensions as per the Tayna specifications, it appears that the Optima would be 3.7cms taller than my current battery? Under a bonnet/hood that might not present a problem, but as the rear compartment has a closing lid on it I'm not sure that the Optima would fit in there correctly 🤔❓

Hmmmmm................?

Paul, Think you need to do some (more) internet research then? e.g. If you look on the RockAuto website it will give you recommended batteries for a c6 and a C6 "Supercharged." Shows the dimensions for the later there (in inches). Cheers/Peter

C6 coupes came with the following batteries and trays from the factory:

Year / Battery Group Size / Battery Tray P/N

2005 86 10268430
2006 90 10352084
2007 90 10352084
2008 85 10268430
2009 85 10268430

As you can see 2005, 2008 and 2009 use the same trays.
2006 and 2007 models use a different tray.
2005 cars use batteries with the positive post on the passenger side of the battery.
2006-2009 cars use batteries with the positive post on the driver side of the battery (also called "reverse" post).

Battery Sizes, in millimeters, as listed from AC Delco and Odyssey:

Group Size / L W H

34 260 173 200
35 230 175 225
85 230 173 203
86 230 173 203
90 242 175 175

So do an internet search for "gm battery group 85" to find one that has same size as above

Cheers for that 'teamzr1', my Grand Sport is a 2010 model. I've been advised to type C6 ZO6 batteries into RockAuto and find their recommendations 🤔❓

They dont have a 2010 recommendation for a C6 Z06 ("7 Litre") only the two same recommendations (Bosch and Dekka) for a 6.2 and a "Supercharged" (ZR1). CCA on those is 640 and 680.

Personally I would not waste the money on an Optima. They were good in the beginning but now they are made in Mexico. The quality has gone down and the price has gone up. I would use either a Bosch or Varta silver or blue. I mostly use Varta on all my cars and generally they last me 9 -10 years when looked after properly.

^^^ This. I've been driving Corvettes (two cars) for almost 25 years, have only bought two batteries and neither of them was an Optima.

The secret IMO is to buy a battery that's fresh from the manufacturer and not something that's been rotting at the back of the workshop of some "Corvette specialist" for a couple of years before you buy it. In this respect I'm a big fan of Tayna - they have pretty much everything in stock and batteries are their core business.

This battery name has been sold more times almost as many times princess Meghan Markle has been
First sold to company in Sweden than to

Johnson Controls Inc.
(Milwaukee, WI) stated that it is buying Gylling Optima Batteries AG (Danderyd, Sweden) for about $62.0 million
Then sold again 2 years ago

Oct. 6, 2020 (MILWAUKEE) – OPTIMA® Batteries, a leading brand of Clarios

Batteries are now made where other junk comes from - Mexico

I'm brand agnostic but another vote for Tayna. I've bought a few from them over the years for various vehicles and they have been very helpful.

I had to return a faulty battery, Optima Red Top coincidentally, and they were superbly efficient.

Have an optima red top in my C6 Z06 which is located in the boot, fits fine and been in 4 years. They are AGM and my old lead battery conditioner would not charge it so now have a CTEC which does both, so just be wary.
