A/C what do you do, if you don't want it...?

Just imported a 73 C3 to the UK, and the engine was replaced in 93, with no A/C - Given I live in the Uk I also have no reason to have it, but it's there on the console - has anyone removed theirs, and if so what do you put in the console, on the inside of the car, to replace it with?

Most people leave the interior controls alone. Replacing the interior console would be an option, but possibly expensive.

Fair. I don't like the idea of having something there that doesn't function. Guess it could be a home for keys etc, just wouldn't know where to get the part from.

Console could be purchased from any of the leading corvette parts suppliers stateside. ie Corvette Central, Ecklers, Paragon etc. check their websites for pricing.

Like you I thought I wouldn't need A/C in the UK, so left it off when I rebuilt the car. After driving it through a couple of summers, I re-fitted it. It can get quite hot inside a C3 and if it's a sunny day I find taking the roof off doesn't help that much if you get stuck in traffic. I had the A/C on yesterday queuing up at the Dartford tunnel on the way home from Brands and it wasn't a very hot day.

This is my 2nd C3, the last was a 75. I know what it's like being stuck in London traffic with the T-tops off - especially when I am going bald....doesn't help much - however, this C3 has had a new engine, and when they replaced it, they took out all the A/C parts, so it's not so much a choice of having it, as I simply don't have it :).

Just want to know what to, to replace it - if people have done that.

Where are you based?

It’s not just a case of changing shifter plate, a non ac plate has the slits in for fresh air vent controls, you will then need cables and controls and standard heater controls and then to go the whole hog the heater box on the firewall is different.

Perhaps best to wait for a member to do and engine and interior refurb on their C3 that's a similar year to yours and buy all the bits they don't want when they can't be bothered to do a A/C overhaul - and theres quite a few over the years that have removed their A/C pump and associated bits.
