Speeding on a wet road is getting the early blame for a Corvette crash that injured two people Monday night in New York.

State police say 27-year-old Christopher Long of Fort Drum, New York crashed a 2016 Corvette Z06 into a tree in the Town of Pamelia at 6:45 p.m. after losing control on a curve and leaving the road.

Long is listed in critical condition today after being airlifted to Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse.
The North Pole Fire Department extricated Long and a passenger, 18-year-old Donald Steele of Watertown, New York, from the badly damaged Corvette.

Steele is listed in stable condition at the same hospital.
The crash happened on Plaza Drive behind Seaway Plaza just outside of Watertown.

An old tree is as immovable an object as a motorway or railway bridge.......couple that with a narrow surface area and a collision with one is bad news......you'll always come off worse!

If going to crash, avoid a tree at all costs as you won't come off best. I've been to so many incidents when the tree won - even a relatively small one. The worst I went to which surprisingly the driver survived was when an mk 4 Escort hit a huge oak tree and car split in 2 lengthways. The driver was still buckled into his seat attached to the floor which was separate from the 2 halfs of the car. Car was on fire and engine and gearbox were sprayed over the road. Perhaps the guy was saved as the car had been cut and shut and all the spot welds had popped along the roof line realeasing him in his escape pod - lucky guy.
