Clarkys Corvette C5

Good afternoon all! I did start explaining the reasons why I purchased my C5 in the what have you done thread but as I've already started tinkering I think a bit of a thread might be a plan! So my C5 is a 2004 , it has at some point had the electric aerial removed and the hole filled. That has then shrunk the filler and the paintwork on the OS quarter panel has discoloured too. So it's first little job was a trip to the bodyshop to have the panel repaired and repainted, rear bumper removed and repainted and the paint blended into the OS door. Fab job I have to say, sadly I didn't take a before shot ...dang it! Since it has been back I've swapped over to LED headlights and full beams and also a HI-4 kit fitted too. Before I take it to Le Mans it's booked for a once over and I have new front and rear badges to fit too.

Is it just the angle of car to the camera angle
or the rear fascia paint looks slightly different shade ?

Good to see it has the sports seats
People may not know why there is that hole in the upper back rest

That is the correct way to allow if adding harness belts slipping in that hole
This prevents the upper belts from sliding over the driver's shoulders
Many grassroots racing do not want the seat with no holes as than belts can fall off the shoulders in a crash

It was slightly discoloured on the rear bumper and also on the quarter panel too. Hopefully now it's a bit better though! It's 21 years old and isn't a trailer queen and I am sure it'll get a few miles under the belt before I consider a respray. I am addicted to driving it so to take it off the road for a month is going to have to wait 😆

Okay, so got a little bored and decided to fit the new front and rear badges too. I'll leave the exhaust plate till its on a ramp! No idea what made the other old ones go sticky...old front didn't have locating pins so either not genuine or they cut them off when they painted the bumper.

And so I have found how my corvette journey began. This was the auction that I went to with my dad, it would have been on his 60th birthday which I forgot about. It was the pace car edition C4 that he was close to pulling the pin on and I talked him out of. I have taken a few others just to amaze myself at the prices! A lot has gone up in 20 years!! If anyone knows what happened to the C4 let me know, I'd love to see it again. I think the DB6 would have been the one to get really, as it was we left empty handed car wise, just some pictures from the automobilia sale.

Wow, it really hasn't moved much in 20 years then! Thanks so much for that, I seem to remember that there was a jacket included with the lot too at the time. I am sure if my dad had bought it there would be a lot more miles on it now too. It was beautiful at the time, it was just the fact that it had sat for so long and we hadn't gone to buy that. So happy to see it is still in the UK. I might pop down to see it one day too

It was on display next to our club stand and I noticed it said Southern Cars on a flag they were flying. Southern Cars was a dealership just outside Manchester back in the day and where I bought my very first Corvette a C4 36 years ago. Wondering if it were the same Southern Cars I wandered over to see. As I approached, Sam asked "still got your C4?" which I found amazing. She went onto say she was gutted that the C4 had sold being her favourite car in the showroom at that time and probably why she remembered me after all that time. I have a vague recollection she mentioned a jacket.. And no the C4 is long gone

Sounds like your C5 is getting the love it deserves! The bodywork fix and LED upgrades must make a huge difference bet it looks sharp now. How’s the Hi-4 kit performing? Also, any plans for more mods after Le Mans, or just enjoying it as-is for now?

Excited to see how it handles the trip.

@Robert64 Gotta say the hi-4 kit works really well from the drivers seat...not sure oncoming traffic would agree! Today's adventure was a trip to Fastfit to investigate the rear end noise...oh dear! Gonna go with diff fluid change, gearbox oil change and drive shaft nuts first...then we enter panic mode for gearbox rebuild! Lol was good to see it in the air for the first time. Apart from some questionable repairs to the sill where it meets the underbelly all looks good. No oil leaks, no accident damage, just quite a clean flat bottom! As for mods....I'd love to cam it, more for the noise and drama than the extra horses really! But that money may well be a new gearbox the way it currently stands sadly! Eventually it'll be new front splitter or maybe new bumper if I can find one reasonably priced, I like the look of the vette lights led kit for the headlights ( just not the import tax and delivery charges!) , am not too sure. I'd take a reliable corvette over a modded corvette right now! Off to Le Mans in a week and hope to see some more 'vettes there!! Will post pictures..
