Clean speedometer face

Hi all
I am going to remove my gauges from my 1976 as they are very grubby on the actual clock face especially the speedo,and I have read (wait for this) cream of tarter, apparently an old watch repairers secret.I wonder if any body out there has any other ideas because the numbers especially are very easily smudged or even wiped out
Any advice or info greatly appreciated

What about some decals? I did some of my gauges, bit fiddly but worked, also used luminous paint on the needles

That’s definitely an option but I was hoping it would be just a quick polish up jobby but thanks for that corvetteville

Having said that, I couldn't find any for a 76, LOL.
