Direction Indicator flasher unit

Bought a new flasher relay unit to fix my ‘slow’ indicators. On removing the old one, I find that the terminals in the fuse block are shared by this yellow resistor/capacitor (whatever). Standard/required/remove or replace with the new flasher unit?

Looks like a capacitor, can only think they were trying to change the frequency of the indicators. A flasher unit comprises an electromagnetic switch and a capacitor to give you the on off flash.
