Getting hot under the collar?

For those of us with C3's (and perhaps C2's) the hot weather always will make us 'sweat a little'........not just the cabin temperature but also the engine and coolant temperature. Its this weather that will highlight partly blocked radiators and cooling systems, heater cores, hoses, water pumps and finally (and perhaps most overlooked) viscous coupled (clutch) radiator fans. They are quite simple to check. Any visible 'weeping' of the silicon fluid on the spindle will mean replacement. The fan when spun should freewheel half a turn or so. When the engine is over a predetermined temperature (say, 170 degrees) it will lock and draw more cooling air) - see attached leaflet. Its perhaps worth noting that instead of ripping out the stock fan and installing an expensive electric fan system - firstly check-out the current clutch assembly - replace with the correct OEM type unit....or perhaps consider one of the heavier duty units?

This rise a question?
Which is the Max diameter fan size for a C3 corvette ( '75) you can put under the hood to match a good clutch?
