Hi everybody,

I am new here and I really hope i can find some help besides a nice family.

Does anyone have an 81 (or 82…or whatever is the year it can be usefull😅) with the anti-theft alarm system?
I have a big doubt regarding the orientation of the ring switch connected to the lock cilinders that you can install in any 90 degrees positions.
In my car (but maybe they were already replaced over the years) the wires were pointing DOWN while in the shop manual and in some other pictures they should be pointing forward.
Of course there’s a big difference in the operation:

Wires pointing down: when you insert the key (key is vertical) there is NO continuity. When you turn the key CW to unlock (key is horizontal) THERE IS continuity.

Wires pointing forward: when you insert the key (key is vertical) THERE IS continuity. When you turn the key CW to unlock (key is horizontal) the is NO continuity.

Question: is the alarm supposed to be armed with continuity (closed circuit ) or without continuity ( opened circuit)?

I attached some picture showing the sense on the shop manual and how my switch were before I took them off

Thanx in advance

FIlippo

You need to expand on what the problem is, does the alarm work in one of the switch positions ?
I would think as to wiring below, when doors closed switch is open so no ground, but open door puts system to ground to
set alarm off
If mechanical version C3 when switch is open position, no ground, alarm off
when switch closed then goes to ground which goes to alarm controller

This will help debug alarm system for a 1982 C3

Thanx a lot for answering! the car is realtalvely new (for me) and i never tested the alarm system. It only went off once trying to open the door from outside pushing the external handle when it was locked. I dont know if the system works properly but I am not now in condition to check it for many reasons.

I decided to replace handles, locks and key cilinders with new onces and, since it's preggy hard to put on the cilinders (having also the anti tamper swithc) MY GOAL now is just to put the switch in the correct direction to be able to open and close my car again (and drive it). So i am using a tester to find out what is the logic proceadure to put them on. In the future i will for sure check all the alarm system but now i have the power locks disinstalled so i think it would not work correctly anyway...

Using the wiring schemetics above
Follow wiring if no power door locks or if mechincal if having to debug any issue IF there are any
All alarm switches for doors, hatch, T-tops, when those switches pushed in then no ground
any not pushed down then causes the controller to go to ground and trip alarm
