The story behind Chevrolet starts with the name of its founder, Louis Chevrolet, a man from Switzerland who immigrated to the United States in 1901.

During the following years, Louis Chevrolet worked himself until becoming a popular race car driver.
Together with his brother Arthur and William Durant, they founded Chevrolet Motors in 1911 but sadly, the founders departed from Chevrolet Motors before it became one of the biggest car companies in America...

There was an interesting programme on TV a few days back as part of the TV series 'War Factories'. It was about GM's buying into the Opel factory a few years before WW2 and turning the Blitz truck to to one of the best available pre-WW2 and through WW2. Even more interesting perhaps how GM's Slone was seen increasingly as an apologist in producing vehicles for the Germans, or more specifically for the Nazi's. It went on to explain how Sloane was reporting directly to Roosevelt about the Nazi's.

Opel made some pretty nice cars, most of them we had as the Vauxhall equivalent. Opel manta’s we’re always nice sporty cars. The last of the Mantas were great.

No, they really were nice looking cars, the Monza’s had a 3:0 litre motor and were quite, no very luxurious inside. Even a digital dash on top of the line models. Remember this was the 1980’s so their styling was as of the time period.
the AMC Gremlin well, you know the saying “ there’s an arse for every seat” 😂

Rambler/AMC Gremlin, Hornet, dare I say even American were all 'compact' sized vehicles that were small and lightweight - Gremlin was a sub compact and great wheelstander in the day on the strip with a big block. If you were not the sort of person likely to be embarassed to be seen in, er' what was perhaps the equivalent in the USA to a third world Lada or Polonez then firm.......tick the option box for a 304 cu in V8 (or better still visit a scrap yard and pull a 390 or 401 out of an earlier car and go Chevy and Ford thrashing.
