Can anyone recommend a good battery for my 1970 - 454, that will cope with this engine, as I have found in the past a standard battery has not really got enough cranking power.

Bosch Gold Star - Just ask for one that has the cranking power for a V12 Jag - they should have that listed - help needed here by someone with more knowledge than I - what about the Battery amps per hour mating to the Alternator ability amps per hour???
A 'fancy' battery (like 'fancy' mini-starter) is simply not really needed for a 454 (or 350 for that matter) some swear on Optima batteries - fine if you want to pay the money - provided you have UK type post terminals all you need is an 086 sized battery - simply buy one with the best CCA and it will be more than adequate for any 350, 427, 454 or larger - they work fine on my 489.
