Rear side marker lights

Hi all
should the rear side marker lights blink along with the turn signals or just stay on solid red on my 1976 coupe

Kinda makes you wonder about the idea (if possible) of replacing red with an amber alternative and wiring into respective flasher circuit........in as much as to give better indication of turning intent.

As a kid I Always thought side marker lights looked cool at night, which was in fact their intended purpose. To show the length of the vehicle in the darkness.
