Water pump removal

Do I REALLY have to remove the fan shroud to remove the water pump? Just removed the fan off the pump pulley and there seems acres of space to get the pump out! Just about to remove the drive belts by loosening off the front engine ancillaries. Appreciate that the mounts for ancillaries are also the bolts that hold the waterpump on, but surely I don't need much more forward movement on the water pump to remove or do I?

Short answer - no. If you've managed to extract the fan, you're good to go. That said, it's only a couple of bolts on the later cars, I think it just slots in at the bottom. But, as I say, you're OK once the fan is out.
