A Chevy Corvette Z06 and a GMC Terrain were involved in a collision that sent six people to the hospital. The accident occurred in the Chicago suburb of Grayslake, Illinois on Sunday afternoon in the area of Peterson and Midlothian roads. According to the most recent reports, five of those injured are in stable condition and one is in critical condition.
More specifically, the vehicles involved in the accident were a C8 Corvette Z06 and a second-generation GMC Terrain. The front end and passenger side of the Z06 were smashed, and the Terrain was rolled on its side. Judging by the video above, it appears that the roof of the crossover was detached from the pillars by emergency response crews to extract the vehicle’s occupants.
NBC Chicago reports that one of the victims in the accident was a 12-year-old boy who was ejected from the back seat of the Terrain. The child was moved to Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago in critical condition, according to police. Fox Chicago reports that ambulances and fire departments were called in from surrounding cities in Northeast Illinois, including Mundelein, Libertyville, Countryside, Round Lake, and Lake Zurich.
This accident serves as a reminder of the importance of responsibly wielding modern high-performance sports cars in traffic. The C8 Z06 is an incredible track car, but pushing its capabilities on the street while sharing the road with the general public can lead to disaster. The 5.5L V8 LT6 mounted behind the driver in the Z06 pumps out a whopping 670 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque.
