Exciting day - rebuild of 78 coupe

How did you find that!!!! That's definitely it. However it looks to me that this is effectively an electronic relay which would replace the mechanical one. Weird thing is the mechanical one works. Now I'm just as confused as before. Also, I didn't mention that in the 2 power supplies to the radio there is a resistor inserted in one and a coil in the other, again no idea why.

I think I see he’d fit Chevy antenna relay and it came up.

I did find somewhere that it says the original type really is no longer made so maybe it went and was replaced with this. As you say it seems to need both the grey box and the relay where as the corvette one seems looks like this.

It seems that the timer is the same part number as the courtesy light delay timer. My guess is that the timer is intended to remove power from the antenna motor 10 to 20 seconds after the radio is switched on or off. For the antenna that I've got this isn't necessary, as there is a switch inside it which turns off the power when it gets to the end of it's travel. Think I'll wire it with one permanent and one switched live as it's meant to be and see if it works, if not I'll dump the timer and just re-wire the relay. Thanks for the help and how did you identify the part???

Tried to say how I found it in the last post but Apple got there first and changed my sentence to gibberish!

I googled Chevy antenna relay and a pic with the grey box came up.

It's coming on really nicely and seeing your Corvette being put back together is a great inspiration to those of us still on the strip down stage and wondering where/when it's all going to end.

The door topic is really interesting to me as both sides of my car will need to be completely rebuilt. I'm getting the vibe that they are more than a little tricky....so the more info the better!

Thanks for all the updates.

Tested the timer today and found it doesn't work, so I've thrown that and rewired the relay. The radio and antenna now both work as they should. Luckily I pulled out all the old radio wiring, as I found a previous owner had simply twisted together 6 wires including a permanent live and a switched live from the ignition switch! Just need to mount the radio in the dash now.

TimP is there any particular aspect of the doors that you are interested in?

Thanks for asking but nothing specific for now. However I am interested to see how you resolve the door/window alignment issues you have mentioned.
I will need to do a lot of refurbishment on my doors - they are in a really bad state - so learning about what others have done is really useful.

Can't believe how long it takes to fit carpet! I spent 3 hours this morning just fitting the passenger side front and it's still not quite right. On the other hand it is good to be doing things that actually make the car look better.

Finished off the passenger side carpet and couldn't resist putting the seat in place, really feels like the end is somewhere in sight :)

Also discovered another benefit of having a fibreglass body. The radio came with a stick-on DAB aerial that you are supposed to put on the windscreen. Didn't fancy the look of that, so I've put it on the inside of the rear quarter panel. It's completely out of sight (unless you lie down in the back of the car) and works fine.

That's good, you can tell me how you are going to do it! Are going to use a damming tape or just glue?

The instructions I read were along the lines of trial fit screen, mark where it meets, remove screen, stick damming tape to screen, glue in screen. Sounds simple 🤪

The damming tape just contains the glue it’s not an adhesive.

Anyway looks like you’ll get there first.

John, the carpet is looking great, a fab colour combination. But, I meant to ask a while ago - you didn't think to put something like Dynamat in before the carpets?

Tim - what are you going to use for the damming tape? It needs to be the right width and height.

Steve - I bought an ACC "mastic with pad" insulation kit along with the carpets from Rockauto. It's pretty thick and much cheaper than Dynamat.

Ah, right! I think its just the way the photos were, it looked like carpet straight on to the floor! :)
