Brilliant. The only snag is he can’t see where the hell he’s going once underway.
Forward visibilty is no worse than a car with a huge Gimmy blower and 'bird catcher' perched on top. On the positive side the Gugnot steam wagon would have most likely required one or two red flag operatives walking in front to clear the way (and remember that UK laws require a 'Steersman' and a 'Fireman' so you'd have a flunky to fill-up with water and coal). Mind you the path ahead wouldn't need much clearing of people - with all the noise, huffing and puffing like the 'work of the devil' there would probably been more human excrement on the road than animal..........:poop::unsure:

.......I was meaning because of all the steam. To overcome this wasn’t the mk2 rear engined?
Mid engined - yes, quite possibly but I think they had major issues finding suitable CV joints that would transmit the rather intermittent power delivery characteristics of what was quite a rudimental single acting steam engine. Rumour had that it that they also had significant problems finding compatible electronics to control the ABS and the 'elf and safety executive wouldn't authorise the use of out of date seat belts and associated equipment. Unfortunately the Leclanche cells of the day were in very short supply, although I believe the ABS 'problem' was temporarily overcome by a gift from a certain gentleman named Robert Stevenson who sent Gugnot's team a pair of spare wheels from his Rocket locomotive that featured an early form of ABS braking. Coinsidentally another offer of help came in far too late to be considered from Isambard Kingdom Brunel in the shape of a spare anchor left over from the SS Great Britain steam ship project. It was realised much later that the anchor offered would have needed a support vehicles four times the size of Gugnot's stream wagon to carry it.

At least the driver didn`t need binoculars to see past the end of the boiler ! Forward visibility on a 66 foot long loco through a small front facing window is limited believe me , especially with the cylinder drain cocks open venting off 250 psi of superheated steam . You might as well be up in the clouds ! So you stick your head out the side windows and wear everything that comes out of the chimney ! On the plus side at there are two shiny strips of steel heading off into the distance to follow

That must be an awesome experience.
Then there are those massive American locos.

White overalls....not for long?
They started off dark blue but were boil washed so many times to get the crap off that they end up like that . It`s like a badge of honour for senior footplate men !
This gives an idea of the immense size , and like Forest Gump said , just awesome !9F.jpg92212.jpg

I see that the Steam Car in the video has advanced anti-tailgating technology fitted to it. Anyone know anyone that can fit that cannon mod to my car? :ROFLMAO:

I wondered initially if it was the 17th century equivalent of giving it a nitrous shot. Instead of a Nos and petrol mix something a little more organic like black power?
