Advice please on getting a C5, preferably convertible.

Looking for pointers and any leads on finding and owning a C5. My much enjoyed C6, which I bought new in 2009, has been written off and I feel like returning to what I was actually looking for when I bought the C6.
My mileage is around 50 miles per month with maybe some longer trips now and then and very possibly a trip to Mallorca which we used to do annually in the C6. Guess I don't really need a car at all; it's just having one there, probably as much as anything for visual enjoyment.

Guess you first have to define the C5 years you would be interested in
Being you want a rag top, that reduces the FRC (Billybob) and the Z06s as they are hardtop, no targa tops

Then have to decide if wanting the 4 speed auto tranny or the 6 speed manual tranny

1997-98 had the least amount of HP & Tq and had parts other years did not, so might be harder finding those repair parts
2002-04, non Z06 still had the better LS6 engine producing more HP & Tq

White or silver sticker which is located inside the glove box compartment on the glove box door (late 1998 & newer)

Hello Frank, I have an automatic 1999 (registered as 2000) black C5 convertible with grey leather seats, it has about 35,000 miles on the clock. I'll be selling in June, it's in very nice original condition. I've had the car about 4 years and I'm about to retire. At the moment is has a fault with the steering lock (very common fault) and I'm awaiting the steering lock bypass module from the States. My email address is philharris_associates@outlook.com. That's a massive amount of information; thank you JR. I'm working my way through it and applying it to cars that are attracting me at the moment. My C6 had done 78K since I bought it new and looking at C5's that have done less in over 20m years might look like a good thing but higher mileage isn't necessarily a bad thing as some items deteriorate over time anyway.

OK Phil, think that's in the right ballpark. Bit of a distance to come and see but I'll let you know. Apropos what JR said above can you scan and send me that code plate he refers to please?
I only do about 50 miles a month these days unless I make infrequent trips to Scotland to see my daughter, Devon to check my place there and Le Mans/Mallorca as we used to do every year but but not since 2018, Covid etc and other issues.
I so miss my C6 but can probably borrow a car from my son if and when.

Morning JR. I guess what I would like to do is to replicate as far as possible the attributes of my C6 in a C5. For instance, do C5's have a power hood option? All I can see in your listing is 'Folding Hood'
After the C6 it has to be an automatic, notwithstanding it being 4 speed vis a vis the manual 6 speed. In the C6 I rarely used the paddles for the added Z51 power and usually just left it in 'Drive'' which always seemed more than enough, even around the Sarthe circuit with John Fitch.
There is a lot of information emanating from the plate you directed me to and I thank you for your help.
I'll ask JR but, having gone through the reference codes he posted, I can only see 'Folding Hood'. Did C5's also have a power hood option? That is does yours?

Thanks JR. So the C5 didn't have an automated hood operation, for any market, even the US? Not a problem as it avoids issues with the sometimes delicate nature of the automatic operating system, with which I had become quite expert. The last problem I had was when one of the fixed points inside had broken away from its weld so I was on manual for a while. Pete at MechSpray says that the C5 is easier to work on than the C6 as well.
But there is something James Bond(ish) about sitting there whilst the hood opens and closes, and even on demand by fob from outside and afar with the C7. Anyway, as ever, more complications more to go wrong.

If wanting an electric open/close there are kits that cost about $3,500 US
that converts to a hardtop convertible sold by 3rd party vendors, plus the costs to do this

Thanks for the info. JR. Can't see how this works; does it crease and fold again to go into the boot perchance? Certainly looks very sleek; I like it. I wouldn't pay anything like that for it though. Whose car is that? Looks very much like Phil Harris. Is it yours Phil?
