If anyone has a pair of aluminium heads available for a big block, please let me know what you have with part numbers and if they are bare heads or built up ready to use and I can pass the details on to the chap that is rebuilding my engine the check they are a match for what we need.

Ideally looking for Edelbrock or Brodix heads, high compression with 100cc chambers , big valves and oval port.

They are going on to a 1972 454 (actually 461 now) 4 speed manual convertible.

Thanks in advance.

It's very important if buying used ally heads, (irrespective of age) that you check for waterway corrosion in case the previous owner hasn't used a proper coolant/antifreeze mix. I'm using Brodix Racerite oval port heads on mine.

Understood and thanks for the guidance - I am not overrun with options, so new is looking quite likely at the moment.

Had the Brodix heads on for some 10 years now......there are other options from alternate makers now.......AFR worth looking at. Look at my sign on details to see (with a few more cubes) what they can do.

If you are using stock spec' pistons you'll need to match combustion chamber CC's on any heads you buy carefully. Also beware of aftermarket cylinder heads with raised exhaust ports.......they will in most cases improve exhaust flow figures (which most American V8 engines, even ones with modified heads can struggle with) - and yes raised ports will help performance and avoid the essential need for a cam with a longer exhaust duration.........but, you'll struggle to source suitable headers. And as a side note some of the big tube header are being discontinued.
