Also the ends of the coils are cut off square rather than tapered just to save a few pence in the manufacturing process . That means the coil sits on a tiny point of contact in the strut mount causing a stress point in the last loop of the coil .We’ve had a few springs go on our Fords over the last couple of years. Yes, they certainly seem to be thinner these days. Got a set of mid year springs that I’ve had for 30+ years. They are heavy mothers.
