ok, still getting used to everything and tidying up loose ends.
the under bonnet/hood lights have been disconnected, Haynes says, they come on when bonnet lifted!.
Ive looked, but where is the switch located , hence the fridge light title, want to see if the switch is working when closed, bit like the light in the fridge, you can only see when door open..

I don't know if a C4 is the same, but on a C3 there is a mercury switch built in to the under bonnet light fitting. It operates when it is tilted, so you can test it by removing the fitting from the bonnet and tipping it up and down.

Have you checked that its not just the bulbs that have been removed? I removed them on my '85, as I didn't like them being on/running the battery down when I was working on the car ;) Or bulbs need renewing of course?

Mercury switch, if you take off the glass lens it's under there.

ok thanks all.
makes sense.
the wires were unplugged, dont know why. I plugged them in and the bulbs worked. The car hasnt been used on the road for 5 or more years so just working things out for the MOT. Need to eliminate niggles as its a bit loud and tyres starting to crack from lack of use so any loose ends to be eliminated.

There are under bonnet lights on a C3?. I've not noticed any on my 1968. Wonder if that was something they added later?

Certainly haven`t got one on my 1980 . I know the 1980 MY had a thinner construction hood as part of the weight saving designs on later model C3 `s . I never thought that under hood lamps were much use anyway as they are as dim as a TOC H lamp for all practical purposes !!
