He wouldn't buy it as the "list price" of his car is £220k. If he'd looked on Autotrader, he'd have seen that you can buy a new one with circa £50k off list price !! :

Glad I was fortunate enough to have a c6 z06 for a few years. With so many speed cameras unless your going to a track it’s hard to enjoy the full potential of many cars. At 180k I would rather have the c6 Zo6 second hand as could not justify the extra cash vs performance you can’t really use. I took my car to a specialist as thought it had a problem which turned out to be it was trying to loose grip at 120 mph. That was enough power for me .

Agreed.

I was fortunate to have a loaner C8 ZO6 for two spells of a week each time as Arnold Clark wanted it out there to be seen. On the one occasion conditions were right to give it some clog it came into its own and offered stunning performance. But then it was back to 'normal' driving, the type we all do everyday and you find yourself fighting with it constantly and the ride was hard and skittish. I could have adjusted the settings but as it was in my hands for such a short time I couldn't be bothered.

And that is where old school hi-po Vettes can perhaps make a degree of sense. OK so more challenging to drive in terms of ease of use, comfort and reliability.......and even though that high speed three digit performance is available, it isn't going to be a comfortable experience. Your performance 'window' is sensibly limited to two figure speeds....still enough to get a significant ban on your license, but far less risk of getting 'banged-up' at his majesty's pleasure for a few weeks/months and becoming uninsurable.

This is similar to what I've always said about driving older "quickish" cars. They FEEL so much faster than they actually are, so you get the thrill of driving fast, without actually driving fast. I've been in, driven, etc lots of modern faster cars, and yes looking at the speedo they are fast. But they don't feel as fast compared to older cars. In my FTO and C3 I pretty much never speed as the "fast thrill" is enough for me under the speed limit. My wife's modern baby wagon I could speed in it all day without realising, and that's just a baic 1.5 turbo estate, let alone an actual modern performance car. Thank goodness for cruise control on the baby wagon so I can set it and not worry about speeding.

I had to do the speed awareness course a little while ago as I got caught doing 24 mph in a 20 mph zone.
I now spend more time looking at my Speedo than I do the road.

On the now rare occasions I take the old 65 out, at speeds between 40-70 it feels much faster than that. Side pipes burbling away and being a vert wind blowing etc it’s quite fun, and no chance of getting nicked.
I let the modern “speeders” get on with it. Wizzing about like they do, they can also stop far quicker than I could. I’m an old plodder now unfortunately 🙁

Absolutely! Driving this.......

.....at 70 mph gives me as much adrenaline as my heart can cope with. Even with the steering adjusted as tight as possible, there's still around 30° of play at the wheel and the light body mounted on cart springs with primitive lever arm shocks has you bouncing around like a pea in a bucket. 😱

In contrast, a drive in this......

.......at twice the speed is almost relaxing; the normally very firm suspension softens out and the 'wind in the hair' effect is nicely adjustable. Not a lot of adrenaline though.😮‍💨

The C3......

....... is a nice 'halfway house'. 100 mph is not uncomfortable but a measure of adrenaline is helpful to keep me from going 'off piste'. 🙂

The 'journey' in between lower speeds and national limit (or 'thereabouts') does it for me - knowing that I can 'rev-out' in 2nd gear and blast through that limit.......or.....ride the torque band through 3rd and 4th. The real issue with C3's seeing the speedo - both rev counter and speed are set-back far too low in the dash to keep looking down safely.

Owww... I love a TR6. Dad always wanted one, and I quite fancied one too. Never scratched that itch though sadly.
A couple of friends had them, one had a purple one and the other had a mimosa yellow one. I always preferred the Stag as it had that V8 burble and rear seats.

Coincidentally, before I got my Vette, as a "divorce present to myself" I wanted to get a V8 a I'd never owned one before. Originally that was going to be a Stag as I really liked them. But then I found the C3 Corvette and the rest is history. I do miss having rear seats though, especially now I have a child as it means I have to leave either the child or wife behind (normally the wife :ROFLMAO:).

I always loved the Triumph Stag, had a few over the years, and restored one in 1985. They have a unique V8 burble, possibly because it’s a 3:0 litre?. Certainly the two rear seats are very handy for young children.
Never had one with the rover 3:5 conversion, got to be the stag motor for me, plus I never liked the bonnet bulge on the conversions.
